Reiki - need a little more info than just that the capacitor popped - PM some of the details, lets see what happen (which type of unit, motor, conditions, esc set up) - lots of variables involved.

No problem.
Team associated b4.1
Thunder power 2s 35c 5400 mah batteries
Thunder power 7.5 motor
Viper vtx10 esc
Running profile 2
No drag brake
No boost, no motor timing
Using air tronics mt4

Track conditions 100% true clay
Indoor track temps 76 degrees
30 min run times motor temp 151 esc 142

When capacitor popped was after 5 mins and a lawn dart crash

What is the dynamic brake? So I get what the regular brake is and I get what the drag brake is....but what is the dynamic brake? I have a profile from one of the Viper techs with the dynamic brake setting at 2% so really wondering what it does.

Thanks.

Think of it as a step of drag brake. Ever wish you had a little drag break to lift off and control a slide - but regular drag break slows you too much. That is what this does. Provides a percentage of drag break until you hit a certain rpm level, then regular drag break takes effect. Mostly used for on road, with off road you have to be careful it can make the nose drop over jumps. It's an interesting tool.

By accident today I discovered a way to make the issue I'm having with my VTX10R occur on command repeatedly...

The issue is that the ESC randomly "reboots". The steering stays on throughout the reboot, but I lose throttle for ~10 seconds while it reboots (ie. flashes the same lights and makes the same sound as when you turn it on).

Normally I use Reedy 60C 5500mah or Orion 90C 5500mah lipos with my VTX10R / VST7.5 in my 2wd SC10. The "reboot" issue with this seems to occur randomly...

Today, I put a crappy NiMh pack in the sc10 and it would do the "reboot" nearly every time I would hit full throttle from a standstill...

If I reduced the punch setting a lot (ie. down to 1%) even with the nimh, the issue went away...

So, is it the power capacitors? Not big enough to smooth things out during the high current draws of full throttle starts? I see the VTX10R comes with a different cap now than what mine came with and the black editions appear to have an even bigger cap?

Thoughts???

what servo are you running?

Sounds like a battery brownout condition. How old are your batteries?

FWIW, I can tell you that my castle esc does the same thing when I have the voltage going to the receiver above what the battery voltage dips to under load. It appears that when there is a voltage swing to the receiver, it actually acts as if you have turned the radio off, then on again. Which, resets the esc.

Interesting...even without confirmation it makes me want to upgrade the 270uF caps on my VXT10R to the three 1000uF setup that my VXT-BE has. Does yours have the older silver caps (the 270uF) or the newer black caps (470uF)?

really dumb question, How do I turn off my copperhead esc with out unplugging it from the battery? I would have thought to hold down on the switch but that doesnt seem to work

hold down the button on the switch for a second or two, all three lights will light up, then let it go

Thanks for replying godofcable.

Jordan, I answered your email.

Grasshopper. I wouldnt worry about it unless you are running a 550 motor.

Not really worried about it as much as it gives me something to do. Plus I just happen to have a bag of 1000uF Rubycon caps sitting on my desk.

I don't suppose there's an ETA on the 1/8th ESC. I'm thinking of buying a 1/8 buggy for my fleet and want to be brand loyal when I do. :tire:

Let's just say its in the home stretch!!! Testing has been very good. Great reports from the team guys, we have actually done well at some regional level races with it.

I have the JConcepts SuperCup race this weekend and want to get my B4.1 Dialed in to Compete with these boys running the Reedy Sonic 17.5 and i plan on running my Viper VST 17.5. What would be the Best Gearing Spur/Pinion to compete?
