Any chance you could do that chart for the AE 4x4?

Vtx10r and vst5.0l ESC settings starting point for an SC104x4? Am running the latest firmware that I received from Erik last week. I know there was a starting point that was recommended before but I have lost that and don't want to burn everything up.

Thanks

Speed Calculator

Info you need:
Motor KV (4500kv or 5150kv)
Battery Nominal Voltage (2s = 8.0v)
Tire Roll Out Length (Diam x Pie - for SCT 4.15" x 3.14 = 13.03" for 1 RPM)
Transmission Ratio (SCTE = 3.89 - SC10 4x4 = 2.75)
Spur Gear (40T scte - AE = 58T, 60T, 62T)

First - Motor RPM:
KV x Nominal Voltage = Motor Peak RPM

Example - 4500kv x 8.0v = 41,200RPM from a 2s Battery

2nd - Trans Input Speed
(Pinion Gear / Spur Gear) x Motor Peak RPM = Trans Input Speed
(12T / 60T) x 41200 = 8240RPM

3rd Tire Speed
Trans Input Speed / Trans Ratio = Wheel Speed
7200 / 2.75 = 2996 Wheel RPM

4th - Convert Wheel RPM to MPH
Wheel RPM x Tire Roll Out
2996RPM x 13.03" = 39,037 Inches Per Minute

Convert IPM to MPH
Inches Per Minute x 0.000946969697 = MPH
39,037 x 0.000946969697 = 36.97MPH

Thanks I went with 15t because when I got the viper everyone here said they were running 15-17t.
I did test it a couple times but just playing around in the yard..it was fine there..track diffrent story.

I changed to 13t..unfortunately my local track is now closed..so I have no where to try it out again.

And yea only problem was the motor got hot. The ESC seems bulletproof..never gets hot handles whatever you throw at it.

Well if the only problem is that it is hot, I would say that you probably should gear down to a 14t or 13t pinion, 15t is fairly high gearing for that truck with that motor.

Doing the math calculating for 8.0v with a 4.15" tire you are right at the same over-all mph of 42.5mph, which unless you have a real long strait is kind of high. You are more than likely lugging the motor so much it will not perform 100%.

FYI - comparing the R.45 to the R.51 motors, when in the Losi SCTE, the gearing works out that you need to be 2T apart to achieve the same speed.

R.45 Gearing / 40T Spur / 8.0v / 4.15 Tires
15T = 42.8mph
14T = 39.9mph
13T = 37.1mph
12T = 34.3mph

R.51 Gearing / 40T Spur / 8.0v / 4.15 Tires
15T = 49.0mph (NOT RECOMENDED)
14T = 45.8mph
13T = 42.5mph
12T = 39.2mph
11T = 35.9mph

These trucks are VERY power hungry. They are heavy, 4wd, and have a giant parachute strapped to their back. That and combined with a 2s battery limit for the class, it ends up putting a tremendous demand on the ESC and motor.

In testing, Viper has recorded peak amp draws of 160A and higher! It is very taxing on the system, so we recommend some testing and research before someone just goes out on the track.

I recently raced at a event that had some pretty nasty track conditions (track was dry / dusty / loamy for qualifying and it started to rain - the mains ended up VERY muddy) and saw ESC problems from all the manufacturers that were represented there. The biggest reason why? The people with failures were not compensating for the track conditions. They were not changing gearing / tires, etc..... for the build up of mud and dirt in the cars and tires. I myself finshed 2nd, with no ESC issues, but I ran BarCode tires in the mud so that they would not build up, and I turned the punch / timing down for the extra load.

With power demands being so high (in comparison, one can dump a 6000mah battery in as short as 9 minutes in 4x4 SCT, you can run almost 40 minutes in a 2wd buggy with that much mah), all factors have to go into gearing / setting selection to get the most out of the system.

Ok so I just got my vtx10 with the 8.5t installed. But I'm having issues :( I can't seem to get it to just turn on and go. I finally figured out how to get the progauge working, loaded up #2 profile, saved it. And calibrated it but as soon as its done it just constantly beeps with N flashing. No throttle nothing. I turn it off turn it on and straight to blinking N.

Any ideas?

Your radio is not holding a steady neutral. Turn the throttle trim up or down 2-3 clicks - then re-calibrate. Should put you in the game.

If you check out the Viper forum on our website it even shows you how to look at the PPM range of your throttle channel - it can be different between different models within your radio.

Thank you for the quick reply! I'll do that and check out the viper forum too. I'll post back and let you know

Well I got it to work but I had to switch from the M8 w/Spektrum Module to the Dx3R. I'll have to play around with later to get it back to the M8. Also can you post a link to the PPM range thread? Thank you

Thanks Nik. Want to be ready for the Short Course Showdown in a month.....

nikos2002 05-23-2012 09:48 PM

Nice - you going to the race in Tacoma?? Scotty runs an incredible show, truly the best in the business. The format is awesome, its great to see so many new people who get interested at his events. I wish I could go to every one!!!!

Scottmisfits 05-24-2012 08:11 AM

Yeah, time is booked off work. Sending you a PM now.

brent701 05-24-2012 09:54 AM

With a Return.
Will a print out of of the order/buy work as proof of buying the product?

I need to send back 2 VTX10 ESC's and 1 progauge

nikos2002 05-24-2012 10:06 AM

A proof of purchase is needed, so as long as it shows it was actually ordered - not a shopping cart screen shot.
