I have one small issue, so I think.

Copperheadr4.5

Coming down the straight or any decent size jump when I hit the brake trigger the truck comes to a stop. I have to go reverse 3 times for it to go forward again. I checked the pro gauge and it says forward/reverse. Did i put the wrong setting? It wasn't doing it before its just becoming more and more often. So far the esc has only 10 packs

I got fed up with it and took out reverse and it seemed as it stopped, but I still want reverse though :D

nikos2002 03-23-2012 04:35 PM

i use the 2 stage reverse setting. Which means the brake has to be pushed twice to activate reverse. this way I can use brakes - hard if needed, but still pull reverse as well.

One thing to remember because its unsensored - if you are rolling in reverse and try to pull the throttle - the system needs to think about it a second to realize what pole to apply the power to start forward - so it will seem like it stalls. Same thing can happen if you spin out or bounce backwards off a pipe. That's the only downfall of the sensorless system.

Ok I'll give the stage 2 a try then. yeah under hard braking then letting off while trying to make a turn it would stall out. All my sensor less motors have never done this type of scenario. I'll give that option a try and post back

I spy Viper stickers on a well known drivers car at the Cactus Classic -- :sneaky::tire::eek:

This combo for my track has more then enough punch (I'm dialed down to 80%). I've wanted to try the 550L motor, I just have not because what I have is smooth fast and cool. I have my ESC protection set to 200° and have never hit it. I'd look into a 550 motor because your talking about a larger track. The 540 motor would be plenty for your small track.

Make sure you buy the 550l motor, not the 550xl for your sc104x4. Viper makes 2 550 motors, one (550l) was built for the sc104x4

I really wish there was a Viper sponsored guy in Denver so I could see some other products. It would be nice to bounce ideas off another guy in person. As it stands now, I seem to be the only guy running viper stuff.

i have thought of doing a 14mm rotor in a novak for the 4x4 i have coming. what gearing are you at with this?

nikos2002 03-24-2012 06:08 AM

Hard to speak for a Novak, I don't know it's characteristics. I run 62-14 with our Viper VST5.0L.

Cactus Classic qualifying

After two rounds of qualifying at the 26th Annual Cactus Classic,Billy Fischer's Viper powered cars are running strong. Billy is 3rd in 4wd Modified after a great 3rd overall finish in round 2, that could have been a 2nd if not for getting tangled with a broken car on the last lap. He is also 10th overall in 2wd Modified after a 6th place finish in round 2. Billy is also 13th in Mod Truck, with striking distance of the A Main.

Bryan Eady is 2nd overall in the 13.5 2wd class with a 2nd and a 3rd in the two rounds. Qualifying is so tight that less than a second has separated the top 3 cars in each round. Bryan was actually in a TQ pace most of his 2nd round run until he got caught up in some slower traffic.

Nate Lavery is 9th overall in 17.5 2wd buggy. Good lap times but he needs to get a clean run in the next two rounds.

There is also a driver in the top 10 in the 4wd SC class, who appears to be using Viper products, but I haven't seen an 'official' announcement yet, so we will just wish him luck!!

Hope I didn't miss anyone. I don't know all the west coast drivers or if we have any customers using the products the this weekend.

2 rounds of qualifying today can make a big difference so fingers are crossed for good results and a fun day if racing for everyone.

Its a very, very tight fit. I have seen it done but you need to really shoe horn it in. Or cut the chassis a little to get it to fit. It doesn't effect the chassis.

Or you can get the 5.0L motor which we made to fit the sc10 4wd, slight less torque (how can you tell with 550), good fit for the truck.

I'll take the cover off today and edit my post to let you know. Just know that I'm talking about a 540 6.5turn motor.

edit: 18/93 gearing

will the vx4 3900kv motor and copperhead combo be ROAR approved like the castle sidewinder sct is?

rtkota360 03-25-2012 11:31 AM

I could be wrong but in 4wd sct i dont see a CC roar approved http://www.roarracing.org/?page_id=251 i did not think any 4 pole 550 or 540 was

nikos2002 03-25-2012 01:25 PM

Can't speak for the other company, Copperhead is not ROAR legal, because it is not a sensored system.
