I was checking the can temps, not what the ESC was reporting. I also have the cutoff at 105c but it didn't turn it off. Started blinking green, but not shutoff.

If the temp protection is switched off, should the ESC still record the temp that it got to?

Measures internal temp not case temp and depends what brand of motor you are using.

It will still record the data just will not shut down you motor.

I am using the the hobbywing V10 17.5 motor with a V3.1 and have the shutoff set at 105c. Is that what you would recommend? Or could I set it a higher?

It should shut off at your set point of 105c or just a little higher.

Ok so after extensive use of the v10 motors, here's what I think.

Im running a v10 with a v3.1 stock spec ESC. I feel like the motor had tremendous top end. I'm pulling guys down the straight even when they're geared more aggressively than I am. However, even after playing around with tons of gear ratios, I feel like the motor lacks a bit of torque. It's almost as if its more suited to running outdoors (I run on a small-medium carpet track). The end speed is crazy but I just couldn't get it to accelerate like some other motors.

That being said, it's incredibly smooth, and lets me stay on throttle a lot because I feel I can keep corner speed instead of getting really aggressive acceleration outta corners.

I am running the 17.5 motor with a stock spec V3.1 in a sct and find the motor very smooth. Am running it outside on a loose track, Have tried gearing all over the place and found that I needed to gear it higher then other motors. I am at 6.84:1 final drive now and find that it works well at that gearing, but I am getting close to overheating it. Down the straight it is extremely fast, but does lack torque.

Strange, that's not what I'm seeing. With speedo temp cut-off disabled, motor temp cut-off disabled, and battery voltage disabled, I get 0 deg, 0 deg and 12.6V in the telemetry.

6.84? That's really low... I had mine geared at 3.96 with max timing.

Not sure we are talking about the same thing. I have a 31t pinion and a 78t spur. I devide the spur by the pinion and multiply by 2.72(this depends on your transmission) to get the final drive ratio. With this ratio I have the endbell timing at 15 degrees.

Almost certainly one is fixed timing (blinky) and one is boosted. 3.96 is plausible for 17.5 blinky; 6.84 is on the high side for boosted 17.5, but not inconceivable. I run 6.1'ish for a different motor.

Are you running boosted? I'm running blinky with a 3.96 fdr
