Does the ezrun 60A have the same issues with burning up when used with lowered timing and punch control like the 1/8 scale ezruns do/did?? Thanks for advice.

No. The 1/10Ezruns are fine. They're a different design from the 1/8 versions.

Thanks I generally run 0 timing and about 50% punch on my old MM and want to try something different(and cheaper) and have heard nothing but good out of HW stuff. I also like the smaller footprint stuff as opposed to conventional 1/8 large/heavy esc's. Thanks again for your help.

I love the 60A Ezrun. It takes a lot more than you expect it to. I actually run one in my modified E-Savage that's slightly bigger than a Savage Flux with no problems. And I'm geared for 45mph.

My setup only pulls an 11-13 amp AVERAGE. So I feel that the HW 60A can handle it no prob. It has the same burst current as the xerun 80A and only 20 amps shy of the continuous current. The built in switching bec of the 1/8 controllers does not interest me any way because I have been experimenting with 2s lipo unregulated and like it. So I will be running a small lipo pack for the servo and receiver. Thanks for your help in the matter. Also, I asked earlier in this post about the external caps and 5S. Where do you get the caps from and what uF. I may also try 5S later just to see if it can handle it!!

My 60A is modified with 3x 25C 470UF caps that I got from a dead 80A. You can get the caps from most any electronics place that sells components. Just make sure to get the low ESR ones. For 5s, 25V or 35C will work. Get the largest capacitance you can fit.

So your saying with alittle modding you can use a EZ60 in 8th on 4-5s? Sensorless of course. Using 10th scale esc for 8th youreally wouldnt need sensored the throttle comes on so smooth from them for some reason. JSR if I ever come up on a 60 dirt cheap I will have to send it to you to do your magic to it. I have to say I would prefer a nice bec though, but i could always use an external if I had to. If tis ends up being cost effective lots of guys will be doing this. Now whats this thing I been hearing about guys runnung 5s on the 80EZ's? Are they modding them?

wtf type of solder is used to wire these things up? I'm trying to rewire the stock double plug series on my control & my red hot 200 watt iron can't heat up this solder quickly.

Well it depends. You have to watch your temps and gear it properly. I think it would work in a buggy but not a truggy. You NEED to run an external UBEC to make this work. The constant current consumption of even a truggy isn't very high, but the ESC needs to handle the current bursts. When there's a current burst, heat rises very fast and the current handling capability of the FETs drop very fast also. Having larger caps helps alleviate this current strain in the ESC itself somewhat. They also provide better filtering of the input supply.
About the 80A, people have run it stock on 5s but you're cutting into the voltage margin of the caps. Adding higher voltage caps will help avoid the possibility of your caps dying which will kill the ESC shortly thereafter.
For the 60A Ezrun I've ran it up to 4s no problems. I haven't tried 5s. I don't know of it would turn on or how close the input voltage is then to the Vds rating of the FETs and other components. Of someone wants to donate a 60A and some caps I'll put it together to try it out.

Find a used 60 cheap and I will pay for it and you can hook it up and we can both give it a whoopin. I would only use 4s anyway I was just asking about the 5s thing cause I heard about it, frankly my thoughts are if you wanted to run 5s just but the 150 DUH LOL.

New EZRun 60A ESCs go for $50, pretty cheap. If I had extra cash around right now, I wouldn't mind picking up another one just to see if it would handle 5s. I know it handles 4s already, even with the stock caps. But if you plan to put it in a 1/8 buggy, I would add larger caps as the current surge will be bigger than in any 1/10. The 80A will handle 5s with stock caps also and you still have a bit of headroom with the caps. But the 80A is virtually the same size as an MMM. The 60A is super tiny...it makes the Sidewinder look big...ha.

I went to Radio Shack and didn't see anything that said "low ESR". What exactly does that mean and how do you know if they are or not. Do I need a better store than Radio Shack? Thanks man.

ESR is Equivalent Series Resistance. Its basically how much loss the capacitor contributes but also affects others things like damping and stability. I haven't gone to RS for components in a while. I don't know of their caps even have ESR ratings. If you can't find out the value look elsewhere. some more specialty electronics components stores might offer more or better options. Larger voltage caps also typically have lower ESR so get higher voltage if you can.
