Thanks for your reply and the work you do on your YT channel !

I've read some insights from this thread : Hobbywing G4R or Teampowers V5S ?
And one reply attracted my attention :

My main track is quite a large flowing 1/8 track (picture below for illustration). Knowing that I run on this track in 1/10 TC blinky 17.5t, and based on the inherent characteristics of both the HW G4R and the TP V6S (or even maybe the V5S), which one *should* be best suited to my needs ? Open to other brands / models as well if it makes sense.

What attracts me the most in the G4R is the internal rotor fan and the fact it is a bit shorter than the TP. However, I would prefer to buy the motor with the best match for my track.

Thanks for your input !

From what I have tested, my top 3, for that track, would be:
  • Surpass V6 Stock Spec
  • REDS Pro Stock Factory Select
  • Team Power V5S.

Thank you very much for your input !
Just for my understanding, what are the characteristics of the HW G4r which don't match with the specific requirements ?

Also, can you confirm the that Surpass v6 and the TP v5s are basically the same, the later being "only" more expensive ?

I'd recommend just looking at what the fast guys at your track are using and copy them.

I will not say 100%, but take a look at their performance numbers, side-by-side. Their posted in the last video of the V5S on The Jerry.

Here's my video on adjusting the timing under a load. It makes a huge difference.

If you do that, then you'll run the R1 v30 motor most of the time with the G4R in second place...

Great way to find the sweet spot, specially when the motor turns the same loaded kv with much lower timing and a bigger gearing window to lower heat fade at the end of the run...That info is worth one second per lap already...lol...Time for some serious bench testing...See ya....
PS: I am also betting that it probably took the motor less time to spin the load to the target 27krpm at 46.2* than at 52.8*...Also watch your gearmesh(looser is faster), bad spur gears, drivetrain vibrations, bad bearings, chassis rub, and unbalanced tires....

Is that a bad thing if those are the fastest motors?

Not a bad thing, but you know most racers will always wonder if there is another more powerful motor brand out there that will give them the edge...Let the testing begin...Cheers...

Correct the Surpass v6 is similar to the TP v5s.
I still find the TP v5s more of a small to medium track motor.
On a very large track it still doesn't have the top end of the HW G4R, no matter how you compensate in FDR, the HW still has a bit more top end since the V5s is more torque.
In the infield, I still found the v5s better than the G4R, but I lose 2-3 car lengths to them on the straights

The new TP V6s, seems to have similar torque to the old motor (actually the gauss ready is almost 100 gauss higher than the v5s), but the main thing is that it keeps up, matches or sometimes surpasses the G4R on the straights, but not by much.
I have played with the timing and FDR on the TP motor and it seems to like timing between 35-40. Anything much higher than 45 and the motor gets too hot and fades. You can run lower timing and lower FDR on the TP. While the HW prefers 45 timing or more and higher FDR since it has a lower spec rotor and lower gauss reading on the motor.
