I kept my Team and Certified motors. I will send those in when they send out the email for them.

Damn. I thought since I only had submitted for certified motor, that it was an email for certified. I didn’t know there was a generic and a forthcoming certified. What a total loss for me then.

I got my return shipping invoice (no cost) today. According to the listing, they're sending the new motors and old motors back, will see when the box arrives.
I did message CS last week, was told to hang on to my certified motor, that they would send another email later for it. |
Update from 7/4 post. I did get both of my "certified" 13.5's back with new cans but the same rotor, bearings and titanium screws. I didn't even try them, they went straight to be posted for sale and I sold both to the same racer. Hopefully they work out for him as they were both very strong but not legal. Glad to at least gotten something in return.

Seriously? Their new motors have rotors that barely hit 1700? That's pretty pathetic.

I sent back three motors today, all Team Spec (13.5, 17.5 and 21.5). Hoping they just take off the two ends, remove the rotor w/ shims, and then install in a new Slot Machine 2 Can/Stator. Then send them back to me. Holding on to the Certified Team Plus 25.5 until I get another email asking for the Certified motors back.
Before I shipped them, I put all three on my HobbyWing Tunalyser to take a picture of the readings, then disassembled each and took a picture of the rotor numbers on my rotor checker. Will check the new motors when I get them back to see if they have my old rotors and sensor boards. |

Here is a quick comparison just with numbers from a Motolyser, milliohm meter, and an lcr meter.
The below is a pic of the original printout that came with my Slot Machine V1 Certified Plus 21.5. And then a printout of the V2 I received. Notice the rotor strength of my "Certified Plus" rotor that came with my original. Yep, 1700... Also notice that the sensor angles are better on the V2, mind you timing needs to be adjusted because it is too high to start off with on the new motor. Or I think it is, I'll find out... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...d9bd037b28.jpg Here are the readings I get from my milliohm meter (Instek GOM-804), using the pt-100 sensor as well to account for the temperature offset to 25°C. Slot Machine V1 Certified Plus AB: 55.3mΩ AC: 55.2mΩ BC: 55.2mΩ Slot Machine V2 Race Spec AB: 55.2mΩ AC: 55.0mΩ BC: 55.2mΩ And here are the inductance readings from a cheap lcr meter, checked with no rotor in the can. Slot Machine V1 AB: 118.4µH AC: 116.9µH BC: 118.0µH Slot Machine V2 AB: 120.1µH AC: 119.5µH BC: 119.4µH What does all this mean??? Fantom Racing champions the idea that if you can find a stator that has the same IR and slightly more inductance, that stator would be the better stator. Well my V2 I just received has lower IR than my Certified and higher inductance, so on paper the V2 is a better motor. I'll do some load testing and dyno pulls on them later. |

Here are the readings I got from my V1 17.5 Slot Machines, both spec and certified.

What wasn't legal about them? No sense getting something back you can't use.
Trinity changed some of the design after the original design was certified by ROAR. |

Those numbers are not very good. It's showing 18,400 RPMs with a 3.5 amp draw? Some of you might be screaming "it's about the torque." Yes, but a 1700 rotor is not going to make up for the lack of RPMs. And, with a 1700 rotor, you would think it would be spinning around 21,000 RPMs at 3.5 amps. I just might hold onto my V1 Slot Machine.
Here are the readings I got from my V1 Slot Machines, both spec and certified. Notice the spec, at 3.9 amps, was spinning at over 23,000 RPMs. |

Umm, the motors I am comparing are 21.5... Also, I am comparing a Slot Machine Certified 21.5 vs a Slot Machine 2 21.5 Race Spec I just got. They look pretty much the same on paper. Also just showing that even the Certified Slot Machine didn't always come with a super strong rotor.
I missed that. I went back and edited my comments. |
My exchange spec 17.5 SM2s with the orange rotors came in at 1753 and 1740, my old spec red rotor is 1734 (only had a handful of runs on it before I had to shelve it). Rest of the specs are about on par with my Surpass V6 heavyweight which is great considering they aren't worth squat if I try to unload them lol

If they're exchanging your motors with enshittification specials, then I'm glad I never sent mine in.
