Spektrum DX5 Pro 5-Channel DSMR radio -NeoBuggy.net ? Offroad RC Car News
Any thoughts on this? I’m game, I’m replacing my M12SRS (nice radio but tired of the weight/ergonomics). I briefly had a DX5R and I have to admit the feel was great.

I’m curious what the major differences are between this and the DX5R. One thing that does stand out is accessories, looks like the Pro includes the different accessories needed for customization (grips, wedges, etc).

I am hoping maybe Nick from Spektrum will chime in and go over some of the details for us. I am very interested. I don’t think $300 for the 5R Pro is bad at all, with the new receiver and ergo accessories that are included. You can customize the radio right out of the box.

- Pre-loaded AVC modes – for 6 vehicles there are preloaded Drive Modes to give the user different levels of control depending on how they use the vehicle. The Drive Mode feature has always been in the 5R/6R radios. We just took the time to try all the different setting possibilities to give the user the desired experience.
- Ergonomic accessories – the 3 sizes of grips, angle wedges and small wheel were all items sold with the 6R, that users could adapt to the 5R if they wanted. Now it comes all in the box for better experience.
- Angle Wedges have actually been updated to make the installation easier, customer does not have to unplug anything from the radio to install the wedges.
- Smaller wheel has been sized to match diameter used by other manufactures wheel size.
- Angle Wedges have actually been updated to make the installation easier, customer does not have to unplug anything from the radio to install the wedges.
- Improved Steering Mechanism – the internal mechanism controlling the steering wheel was modified to provide a smoother motion from right to left. Also the motion more closely matches the “feel” customers may have experienced with other high end radios from our competition.
- Throttle Throw – Actual distance the throttle trigger moves was increased. This change was done to match the overall travel of the trigger as used in other high end radios. It will give the user a more precise feeling through the range of motion.
- Lipo compatible – The 5R did not react well with Lipo batteries without an update from our Service Center. The new DX5 Pro, comes with this update built into programming. A lipo still needs to be removed from the radio to charge. SPMB2000LITX fits the DX5 Pro. Would suggest SPM6834 charge adapter.
- Texture change – the overall texture of the DX5 Pro was changed to match the smoother texture used on the DX5C. Some customer comments not in favor of the 5R texture lead to this change.
- Lap Timer capable – The software to use the Spektrum Lap Timer (SPMLTG5000/SPMLTT2500) was available as an update to the DX5R, but comes loaded in the DX5 Pro.

I will answer it.... not in the near future - not a whole new radio. That is not to say we don't have some cool projects for the 6R in the works. Hope to be able to share more soon.

Thanks Nick. I am really digging the DX6R, so I am looking forward to what's coming. I met you at the Orion race at Leisure Hours and you helped me out with a question about my servo twitching. I appreciated it! Keep up the great work!

Nick, thank you for the information. I have a couple of other quick questions. Does the DX5 Pro come with both the small and large wheels, or just the small? Are the grips the same material as the DX5R (I liked those)? Lastly, have any changes been made to the battery door (does it still use 2 small screws)? Thanks!
