This weekend at the Texas Biggie I had a Max SL3 implode, so I put in my back up which is a Novarossi NSR3 Race ... I got it new a couple years ago but it has only had MAYBE a half gallon thru it ... After putting it in the car and tuning a little (hadn't been started or ran in about a year) it ran surprisingly well. I continued tuning it, getting the gearing, and clutch / two-speed adjusted. It was running better than it did when I replaced it with the Max.

In the main here's were the problem was, which was why I replaced it to begin with. It runs great, never gets about 270ish. However when I come in to pit an refuel it will flamout ... not everytime and not as soon as the idle slows. It happened twice in the 30 min main, first time (about the 10 min. mark) my pit man refueled me and I left pit lane and on the second turn it just flamed out. It fired right back up with no problem. The second time (about the 25 min mark) after getting refueled I was at the end of pit lane when it flamed out. Once again it started without any problem.

..... Can someone tell me what causes this .....

I have seen this happen to me when I shim the engine on the high side. If the engine restarts right away it's because the mixture is rich at low revs. Try leaning out the bottom or open up the idle until it stabilizes.

Since I like saving some fuel, I tend to use many shims in the engine and I open up the carb just a tad by holding steady on the trigger during refueling. Itīs risky but has worked out just well for me. I sure enjoyed watching faces in awe when the other drivers saw how much run time I was getting...

I think its easier to prevent flaming out when the head is lower, but if I were you, I'd find more expert advise... Besides, you do not want to lower the head too much...

I hope someone else suggests something here...

Thanks for the input .... I was starting to wonder if anyone had read the question .... I haven't shimmed the head, it's stock .... I'll try to lean the bottom out, the temps were around 270ish as I said .... thanks agian ... :)

Just wondering if anyone has information on the 3006 and 3007 pipes from Novarossi? I see that at least the 3007 was used at last year's Euros most likely as per the new EFRA rules. But I was wondering how these pipes compare in performance to the 2015 and such.

"The 30XX pipe set gives more counter pressure therefore increasing low rpm power and decreasing maximum rpm. You should know this before choosing your manifold."

In 1 word.
They suck... :D
No really, indeed they where used due to the new EFRA rules, but this year these rules are thrown overboard, and most 20xx pipes are allowed again (not all).

The 3007 pipe is ok.. but the 3006 Pipe is really bad!
If you don't have to, I would not recommend anyone to use the 30XX pipes....

Okay, here are the facts ;)

353 is PLUS 2, and Plus 2 uses 7602 conrod.

12-3, S, T, ST, SCT, CT are all Plus and use the 7601 conrod.

Not sure on which engine the Max is based.

Pattojnr 04-12-2009 05:27 PM

the MF is the Mega MF . based on the LS or LL3, not quite sure. it is a novarossi engine, and does take the 7601 rod also.

to answer your PM, i change my rods after run in, and then after every meet i pull the engines down to inspect. there is no set time to change the rod, but generally should be looking at chaging it say every 6-8 lts of fuel. the more often one changes it the more life the engine will give you.

Hello,

Does anyone know where to get a conrod for the new 353 09? all the sites I visit only have the 08 conrod instock.

Thanks in advance!

kyosho player 04-17-2009 06:05 AM

Hi,
Is the novarossi exhaust # 51607 a good exhaust? What is this exhaust for bottom end or top speed?
thank you

Good question  does anybody know..

maxflo777 04-17-2009 10:36 AM

The 353/09 uses the same rod as all the pre-353/08 engines, e.g. 3ct, 3sct, etc.

The change was to go back to the larger crank pin diameter older rod.

Novarossi did it also with the 359 and Flash.
