Yep they sure are. Most of the US guys have switched brands because of no distributor there so this thread has died off. We are having great results in NZ with the B52 TB-1 package. If you have a look at the argus website you can see some more of the results from around the world. The A5 made it to the A final of the Euro B champs recently! The new .23 is awesome from bottom to top!

For 30% use the standard .3mm shims. I run 25% with .2 shim. 97T or P4 good plug choice, those T3 were pretty erratic, unsure about the new batch. I would change the rod shortly just for peace of mind, unsure about pitting of piston, if it is very minor then maybe it was under shimmed and too lean. If it is quite bad i would be stripping the motor, check the bearings etc.
I had a Kyosho team driver tune it up - he owns the LHS I bought the engine from. He had said to put all the shims in for 30% and we could de shim from there if required, but mindful of your advice, I compromised and went for .40mm. Ran great anyway and I can always go down to .30mm if I need to. Here's the pic of the pitting. Button seems fine as you can see. I've ordered a new conrod + wrist pins and will check the engine over and polish the top of the piston when I do the conrod. Thanks for all your input. That piston looks normal, they used a high silicon aluminum that is hard and looks that way.

Hi guys, I need to borrow some of your knowledge.
The case is this: looking to stock the sleeve/piston/rod for when it's time to replace on my Argus A52 but it is hard to get replacement parts for it here in Portugal, and the few places that do sell them awfully overpriced. I read somewhere in this thread that Alpha sleeves fit the A52, the only thing needed is to dremel the slot on the opposite side in order to rotate the sleeve 180º, so no problem there for me. My question is what sleeve would be more identical to the A52: the A852 one, the A872 one or the F850 one? From what I could gather, the A852 would be the one, but I would prefer to hear from someone who has owned or at least compared the two. By the way MrHavana, from your pictures your engine seems just fine and no pitting is seen. I ran the A52 about 4 gallons with Ammo 30%, one .2 shim and OS P3 plug - believe it or not, that plug lasted all the way from break-in to the 2nd gallon in racing conditions. Fuel wise, it is by far the best fuel I have ever used (and have tried quite a few), the oil percentage is just right, the temps are 10-15º lower than what I have experienced with other fuels and the power is amazing, so I strongly recommend it instead of whichever brand 25% you were trying to decide. And while .2 shimming might be on the low side for 30% fuel, I did not experience pitting or overheating so I'll stick with that, with .4 I believe you are loosing valuable power so I would consider .3 |

The A852 Argus is closest to the S852 Alpha. But the A852 has similar timing and is basically a pro version of the S852. I would go with the A852 if you like lots of low end power. No one over there resizes sleeves?
I am heading over that way this Fall, want me to bring one with? Just kidding we are going to Spain and then a Cruise to Funchal Maderia or something like that and the Canary Islands and then across the ocean. Rex |

It isn't common to resize sleeves around here, most guys just switch engines once they feel they are 'tired', and no one offers that service - not that I'm aware of at least - but I will dig on that. And on top of that - despite the economical crisis :weird: - most local guys opt for the high-dollar engines, like RB, Orion, OS, Nova's and such, so you have stores selling either those lame RTR engines for beginners or $350+ engines, there really isn't what I call the 'performance on a budget' segment. A few Alpha's are finally showing up on the market, but are they are priced close to the top range :mad: I know that in the States you have a few guys that do a good job judging by the feedback here on the forums, but paying for shipping back and forth just isn't worth to have it resized on the other side of the globe - not to mention the weeks I would take. I threw my argus in my JQ today. Haven't ranthe motor for months. Fired right up, couple hours on each needle, which I believe was because of the new fuel and it ripped. I had it on the works 2058, runtimes were in the 9:30 range and a hardpack track with a loose dust layer so wheel spin was abundant. Not bad for a back up motor that's over 5 gallons old.
To bad they can't offer the lower prices they used to. |
hi, im picking up an argus A52 next week :) this will be my first race engine :nod:
racing with a HPI .21 engine from RTR trophy buggy is just embarrassing :o i havent found much info i require and this thread is too long :lol: has anyone got any performance info on the A52 and efra2035 pipe? also using nova 41005 long manifold. thanks, muz |
