Default I love them as well

I like the "Agrus" engines as well, but there heads got to big to quick. More then likely going to switch to the new SH mill.

Argus is made by Alpha, the A52 and D52 are the same engine as a Z852 and the A5 is similar to a Alpha F850. So the Alphas last the same and are the same quality. ( Again thats not a put down, as Alphas are awesome engines ) just a fact. But after my stock is gone thats it for me.

But never the less I think Most guys (inlcuding myself) would just rather stick to the origional, (Alpha) that will be around and available in the long run.

But I dont want to dwell on the topic, I wish the best of luck to them.

I understand where you are coming from, Argus does have a cross over with Alpha. To say the A52 and D52 are the same is not quite right though, there are subtle differences in the sleeve and of course the new crank. I have no experience with the Alpha line up so will trust your knowledge with those other comparisons.

We will continue to support Argus here, the price increase was unfortunate but they are still great engines, with exceptional performance and reliability.

Congrats on picking up the Alpha engines, you are going to be a busy man
Alpha would definitely be my next choice of engine.

so what was the story with pricing of the Argus engines?? compared to what it is now.. eg 150 A5 and 200 for B52 would that be where they were... or?

Actually the A52 and D52(B52) have the exact same piston/sleeve. they are even have the same part numbers if you look. The only difference is the crankshaft is slightly lighter on th D52, even timings are the same. This is why I though it was rediculous for them to raise there prices that much. When all they did was lighten the crank a little and slightly change the cooling head on it. But anyway they are good engines and thats good you are still supporting them

Thanks,
Lance

Sorry to hear that you won't be carrying these engines anymore. Its a good mill. Finally broke mine in this past weekend and it is a beast. The A5 has plenty of power and on THE CAR, it almost has too much for what I expected. The only issue i had was I burnt up 3 plugs during the break in and tuning. Thanks to rcgeezer for the help. Finally got it running strong on the 4th plug. Had to change to a #6 plug and it started running really clean. Finished my main running strong. Can't wait till it breaks in a little more and can really start seeing some mileage. 6 min a tank was a little rough, but it was new and still pretty rich.

Alpha did the EXACT same thing here in Germany.. Started out really cheap and affordable, got a foothold, then the prices shot right up...

Which is exactly why I bought an Argus...

It was a pleasure helping you, the A5 ran really strong in your Main! It was really weird about the plug issues, but the Werks #6 seems to have corrected the problem.

We race the new D52 for the first time, and was very pleased with its performance! For those of you who wanted details and comparisons, here you go... It is definitely faster than both the A5 and the A52. It has crazy top end speed, but the A5 seems to have a stronger bottom end. I'm using the 0801 pipe on all 3, and it works well with each of them. Both the A5 and D52 idle very well, which has always been an issue for my A52. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions, so feel free to ask. Lance has done a masterful job on all of the engines, and his support and customer service are TOP NOTCH!!

Lance will you still be able to repair the Argus motors?
Are the parts for Alpha and Argus interchangeable?

Most the Argus and Alpha parts are innerchangeable. Sleeves are not. The notch is on the wrong side. You can make it work if you notch the other side of the sleeve. I did this with a Alpha 850 sleeve just to see the difference between the 5 port and 7 port. 7 port has more of everything......

Yep, but its easy enough to notch if thats the only option.

And the F850 is supposed to be smoother, and less abrupt. Some guys like it better and some not.

Thats why they came out with the A5, smoother.

i have just run in a A5 on our new break in bench to use in my buggy. 11 tanks on the break in bench then off to the track. I gradually leaned it up over the next 3 tanks and it is hauling still not at full tune but heaps of torque and top end to match run time on our dusty, dry track was just under 9 mins, 2090 pipe with 7mm stinger, 7mm carb restrictor. The 2090 pipe is working really well with either the B52 or A5 in buggy.
