So, ordered an 0801 from Taiwan. Who knows when it will get here. In the meantime, I tried a 2047 today. Best I've tried so far. Still not a powerhouse though.. Run-time maybe not quite as good as JP-4, but more power mid-high I would say..

My customers all have had only positive feedback on these engines. And the Mod engine as well. I keep seeing and hearing about Our Mod pull just about anything on the track.

I currrently have almost seven thru mine and it is still going strong. These are the longest lasting engines I have had in a long time.

What's the deal with head shims? At what point do I start to think about taking one out or whatever? Live at about 330 feet altitude I think..

Leave it factory. I was told messing with the shims plays alot of factors as far as timing etc. Leave what it came out of the box with. Some engines come with a break in shim, Argus i dont think does but if otherwise only the break in shim should be added or removed... Correct me if im wrong, but i think shimming has alot more to do then just button gap...

OK fine.. Just saw them talking about it over in the Alpha thread as if it's SOP or whatever.. Have never really messed with head shims before(never had to...)

If you are att 330 ft above sea level you should be fine with the stock shims. You dont have to start changing them until you get higher up above sea level.

Yes they really are I see these engines outlasting most of the more expensive "big name" engines and providing the same if not better performance. You really cant go wrong with the Argus.

Thanks,

Well, RIP Argus.. It's been a great 12 tanks...

JK.. I hope.. Was running some more fuel through today, after installing a 17T CB(up from 16), and decided to throw the body on. There were a lot of people there watching, and my SC8 was obviously way cooler than every other RC there.. Seriously, these people were really enjoying it.. Anyway, body on, hit the gravel path, did some high-speed runs, got nervous, took the bod off, checked the temp - 345... ....

Don't know if it's toasted yet or not.. Was running great with +1 on the CB and the 2047 pipe.. I am NOT though a fan of gallon break-ins.. Not only does it take forever and is boring, but it's just expensive. I won this Argus in an auction for €95 + €11 shipping. A gallon of fuel costs €44.. To pay %40+ the price of the engine just for break-in is stupid..

Do like the engine though. We'll see if she still runs..

0801 is still on the way from Taiwan...

Just getting it hot should not really bother it too much.... Being lean and hot is what can do damage...Your tune may have been good, but your body was not allowing enough air flow over the head..As long as the tune is good 345 should not really hurt it....These things get much hotter then that in the combustion chamber anyways....

Just put some ARO in it.. When rotating the flywheel it still gets stuck at TDC if you even get close.. So, still tons of pinch.. Piston has a nice copper color - the plug a tiny bit browner maybe than it was before.. No wetness behind the flywheel..

Maybe time for a cooler plug(P4)..? Currently an OD 97T...

a cooler plug may help....but it will also require a little leaner tune...so its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other......chances are the engine will be perfectly fine....... What fuel do you use ? what is the oil/nitro content...and do you know if the oil is synthetic or Castor ? sometimes a fuel can lubricate too well and greatly prolong the breakin period of an engine.....The internal parts need to have enough friction to lap together, some of the modern fuels synthetic oils have an extremely strong bond at the low heats and RPM of a typical breakin, and do not allow the parts to lap together in a timely fashion.....For example the OD race blend will take about triple the time to breakin an engine as compared to HPI purple fuel...OD is a far superior fuel, but not for breakin....

If it wasnt lean boggin and still had smoke it should be fine. Ive hit that temp a few times and it hasnt hurt anything. You can break this engine in in about 7 tanks of gas if you just put it on the ground and drive it. Idle a half tank, then on the ground 1/4 throttle rest of that tank. 1 tank at 1/4 throttle. 1 tank at half throttle, 1 tank at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle,1 tank at 3/4 to full throttle and then start working a race tune on the next couple tanks. Buy the 7th tank it should be ready to race...........

I used to run Sidewinder %25, which had lots of oil, and my engines generally ran very cool(though mostly basher SH engines - my Caster Grenade ran hot for the first gallon - 290ish on av..) The LHS stopped selling it though, so I had no choice but to switch to Tornado Car %25.. So that's what I run now, and have only run in the Argus. Not sure on the oil - %12 maybe? (it's not the Competition blend..) Defo less lube than the SW.. I liked the SW better..

I think the LHS has Tornado %30. Not sure about that though. Have never run %30 before. Also not sure about the price - they might only sell it in 2.5L canisters. If they sell it in 4L canisters like the %25, and it doesn't cost much more, I would maybe consider it.. Doubtful though. I'm currently running like seven engines I think, all used to %25, so don't want any huge changes all at once..

Ran my Argus today finally a dry day and ground was dry well parking lot was. Took it to school parking lot and ran 5 tanks thru it. Using Sidewinder Team strike at 30% with the Orion 2013 pipe the temps were at 230-235. Its a screaming beast of an engine. If the F0801 is better than the 2013 woooha im gonna get me one of those pipes.
