Argus USA Engines Thread

Well I had to the chance to race Rex's car last year at X-Fest, and he had a Alpha Green Head 7-Port in it with his crank mod in it, and all I can say is "OMG Speed!" I mean, it built so much speed on the strait (and it is the longest strait I have raced on, had to be near 150 feet) and the thing was still building speed.
And getting serious mileage too. We were running 10 minute stops if I believe, and I have seen Rex push it over 11.
Kind of wondering what people have tried for pipes on the Argus / Z852. I see some have run the 801 Alpha, and the Go 2075. With a motor that should have a pretty mean bottom end and mid-range, seems like you would be best off with a mid-top pipes

I run the 801 on both. Keep in mind, the Argus does differ a little from the 852. Either way, I like the 801. On the Argus, we have only tried 3 pipes. The 801, a JP 3 and a 2075. The 801 seemed to produce the most power and get the best fuel mileage. I did not race the 2075, but it appeared it toned it down on bottom, but he got over 1 minute less per tank (running buggy). The JP 3 seemed to have better bottom and mid, but fuel mileage was pretty close to the 2075. I will try to get AtoZrc to chime in (he has been very busy lately)...he might can give more info or let you know if I am wrong. LOL
I was planning on starting with the Alpha 801, but wondered what others thought of the 2075 or the 2071 (I think that is the other GO pipe).
I will probably test a AE 2035 also.

Hi all , just got this engine , not break in , because it's cold here , Wat are the principals difference beetween the A52 argus engine and the S852 from Alpha ?? I run a 2072 Aplus/Go pipe on my F850 Alpha engine , and plain to put it with the A52 , think result is good ...
Does anybody try the engine (tnuned , ready to race) , is it powerful as the S852 ?? Thanks for your replies .

Argus has made revisions to the carb, crank, timing, and porting. The timing/porting (from what I understand) is still very similar to the Alpha. There are currently four engines that have been raced, which is the ones that AtoZrc gave to some team drivers to test. I think that everyone agrees that these are a cross b/t the green and orange head Alphas (we have run both). Has very smooth feel, great mid to top (like green head), but still has the bottom more similar to the orange head. I have only run the 801 pipe, but think the 2072 would be a great selection as well. I hope this helps. AtoZrc will be posting updates shortly that might give you more information.

This should be a really good motor. Since Argus were the ones that desighned the Alpha, Im thinking that they took all the good from both the Green and Orange head and put it all into one great motor. Im guessing the heavier crank was to take some out of the bottom but will give you more mid and a lot more top. As outamoney said, the 801 should be a very good pipe for this motor as I know it rips on the orange and green heads. I cant wait to get mine so I can start testing......
hdcruzer...and everyone, keep all of us posted when you do get them up and running. Weather here has screwed up the last couple of races so I still have a little over 4 gallons on mine. Hopefully, I can post more after local Jan 1st race.
Everyone have a Safe and Merry Christmas!

I do know the F0801 pipe works really well on the Argus. The EFRA 2081 works well also. The EFRA 2075 pipe that we tested was an SH. It seemed to tone down the bottom some, great on the buggy but it sacrificed about a minute on run time.
So, currently I would recommend the F0801 or the EFRA 2081. Another testing session is coming this weekend so we will try a few more pipe combos.
Thanks
