So Neal,

Clocked P5 or Clocked B5? Which one is tops in your book as an all around workhorse? Are the performance levels similar?

I have not had the P5 on the track myself.... so I can't say......... both get killer runtimes.......the P5 has more down low and the B5 may have a little more on top..............B5 breaks in fast, P5 breaks in slow......... so hard to say really. only those with track time on both will know for sure which they like better

I have both, and I would not hesitate to buy either one again. My B5 has 12 gallons of fuel on it and it's still running. It was pinched once and had both bearings replaced which was a $60 total investment. It is tired now and power and runtime is not the same but it is still very reliable and gets the job done. Both engines need to be clutched right for a buggy in order to put the power to the ground. My B5 has a Nova carb on it as the stock carb had some issues, but I would say that that the Werks gets better run times by about 30-60 seconds. If I was forced to pick one though it would be the P5. I have always been a big Nova fan and since they are about the same price that closes the deal for me.

How is the powerband between the two ?

Jaz240 02-05-2012 08:58 AM

It's hard to remember back when the B5 was new. It's not fair to compare a new engine with one that's 12 gallons old. I would say if I remember correctly the P5 has more bottom end punch than the B5. Mid range is about the same and I don't think anyone will notice any difference on the top end without 300 feet of track to test on. I think in terms of power band the B5 may be slightly smoother from bottom to top but not get into the high RPM's as fast as the P5. B5 is more of a second gear engine as I do remember a mid range punch while the P5 has a smoother transition from bottom to mid, but will break the tires loose if you stab the trigger from a complete stop if you are not clutched right. I am also noticing that the P5 seems to work better on a larger range of pipes while the B5 really only has a choice of 2. All in all though I really don't think anyone will be unhappy with either one and track layout and surface will play a huge roll in which one will give you faster lap times. High grip or small tight track I would choose P5, loose track, or wide open with small easy jumps I think the B5 would excel.

Thanks James

I am really happy I got the top end to come out on the P5 like that...that is a engine that is notorious for having a weak top end, even when modified......So to have it in the same range as the modified B5 is a accomplishment I am quite proud of, as the mod B5 has a ridiculous top end........time to go hunt some 7 ports now !

Now you're screwing me up John. I was set on the Bonito since the F11's were mia! Tough decision.

nova 28-7 truggy

Got my nova 28-7t last month and all I can say is WOW!!!!! with out a doubt the most powerful engine I have evr run. I bought it for my sc8 and it was way to much so I put it in my XT8 and love it. I couldnt believe how smooth and tractable this engine is and decent run time for a 28 i was getting 9-9:30 out of it on a 086 pipe. Need to work on the clutch setup but other than that it is amazing, cant wait to try my new cre p5xlt and my rc8.2 this weekend.

A quick update. 5 tanks through the bonito on the street in from of y house (my neighbors must love me) and it pulls hard and revs to the moon. I think it's going to blow and it just keeps revving. It comes in and idles right down and temps are great. So far I like what it does. Nice work CRE
Taking it to the track tomorrow...
