If you have a local Thrift Store, or Salvation Army, check there. You can probably get a really inexpensive crock pot, and you'd be helping out a good cause. I'm stopping by my local thrift store today at lunch.

I didnt read the whole thread, but in case noone has brought this up yet... I use Monster Mudd Wash. It's biodegradeable, yet quite potent. I dilute it 3 parts water to 1 part wash for cleaning metal parts- just disassemble your exhaust (remove all springs and seals), and let is soak overnight. Then, just wipe it off with a wet cloth. You can also use it at full strength to remove aluminum anodizing. Or, just mix 5 parts water to 1 part wash for general RC car cleaning, then follow up with water and compressed air and use your fav silicon spray to keep things clean.

Best of all, a gallon will only set you back 10 bucks:

I've used this stuff for my motocross bikes for a while, and it works like a champ.

i bought the anitfreeze at walmart too. i got the 100% not the 50/50 mix. i didnt fill it to the top only till it covered the pipe. i dont think that really matters but the pipe doesnt float so i just think it would be a waste to fill to the top. try it out you will be so SURPRISED

Now what you need to do it spread the word around your RC club that you'll be offering "pipe cleanings" for a small fee. I bet for a couple bucks a pipe, it would be cheap enough for the folks who just don't want to hassle with it, yet still allow you to maybe make enough to pay for the anti-freeze.

You only need enoug Anit-freeze to cover pipes.. I put the pipes in the pot, and then filled the pot just about 1/4" above the highest pipe. Even if some evaporation happens you won't uncover your pipe.. Make sense?? You can get Anti-freeze at walmart or any place that sells auto parts..

Make sure to do it outside or in a well vented area.. the fumes can be over whelming..

A nylon brush and some simple green works wonders on polished pipes and then shine it up with some mothers alum polish and it looks like brand new again.

I have to say the results are amazing! The pipe and manifold came out like new. The crock pot was too small (the $10.88 one at walmart) cause pipe was sticking out the top so I couldn't fully submerge it had to flip it over half way through.. there was a bit bigger one for 5 bucks more oh well haha 10th scale pipes should have no problem. I actually did it in the kitchen I didn't notice any odor around the house unless I was standing over the pot I had the lid on the entire time

...dude that stuff isn't good for you. do it outdoors where there's ventilation. just cause you can't smell it, it doesn't mean it won't do you harm (eg. carbon monoxide). i surely hope you didn't have kids around while doing this.
