I have a Mito7...second one I've had....this thing is impossible to get right....if I get to half way scream on top it backfires, lean bogs, just runs like crap. If I tune to not back fire and run solid it's so fat it's not even raceable. It will start and idle for a week, decent bark on bottom on the stand but it's very lazy on the ground....has great compression, seems free and smooth, fairly new also....like I said, I've done this a while.....I've played with head shims, swapped carbs, checked tank and lines, different plugs....I'm almost convinced it's just a bad mill, but I can't bring myself to give up on it.....anyone had anything similar??

I believe ur low speed needle is rich, but the top is too lean.

Try lean the lsn for stable idle n lean the hsn afterwards

Hello houston,

Is there any reason why we should keep using OS Plug on Novarossi engine when we already have been using it?

I noticed that the lower taper side of the Turbo Plug is a bit different between Novarossi and OS.

Is this the reason?

Cheers.. :)

yes .... its a long standing debate ... i know for fact that the short sealing area on OS plugs distorts the novarossi head button ...

hope this helps

This is an engine I don't know a lot about - it was an impulse buy. I'd like to get what information about it I can and either find a collector that wants it or I'm gonna put it to use and run it in something. It's got the Paris name on it, so it has a little provenance. According to the paperwork, it was one of Paris's last engines as it was manufactured in 2000. I don't know if it was hand modified or made to Paris' specs. Either way it's a NIB engine with all paperwork and original "tuning bible". I'm sure some will recognize it - its said to be the "grandfather" to the P5. This is a Paris Racing Novarossi BX21 SBK01 5-port short stoke buggy engine. Nothing fancy it seems - but any information I can get on it would be nice to have. Is it worth anything? I doubt I'd get my money back out of it, so I will probably end up running it in something. Maybe.

honestly i would leave that on the shelf and cherish it for its nostalgia my man

up to you

Ive gone back and forth. I've had it out of the box a few times and admired the 17 year old fit and finish. It's certainly a nicely fitted engine - the pinch is far tighter than most modern engines I've had in my hands. That aside, it didn't seem to generate much nostalgic interest on eBay or forum classifieds. I just assumed I bought something that is of little value to most if not all folks.

one of those things ... you gotta find the right person

ive had engines that were "special" in which they were worked on by certain "engine modders" .... i gave them up .... i do my own thing ....

good luck with it my man ... hope it runs great for ya if you decide to run it

Thanks for any help

Generally speaking it's good to carry a few different plugs especially with a new engine, if you give a few more details I will do my best to help.
1. New or used engine
2. If new has it been broken in and given a good base tune
3. Ambient temp and elevation of usual track or spot you drive it at.
4. What kind of driving (race, bash, or wide open throttle for long stretch)
5.What kind of load will it be under(make and model of vehicle) some vehicles bear a greater load than others
Also what are your objectives (maximum performance or longevity of engine parts. With these things in mind I'm sure we can get you in the ball park. Rule of thumb is hotter environment colder plug , higher nitro% colder plug. Another thing to consider is when an engine gets hotter it runs leaner, now depending on your tune this could be good or bad.
FYI, here in Hawaii in the summer at 3,500ft elevation an average day is between 80℉-90℉. In a race situation but also not being sponsored(no free engines for me), I want performance but also don't want to cause unnecessary wear. I run a plus 21-4bttwc with 30% O'Donnell, in an old inferno MP7.5. With this in mind plugs I carry: CTO6,CTO7.or equivalent, these will get me through the summer to mid fall

Yeah, I totally get it. It is indeed one of those things. I'll keep your advice in mind.

Is there anything else that may add to the provenance of the engine (and not necessarily to the Paris name)? Is there a current engine that this old girl could compete with or compare to?

Fastest engine at the euros were an Ielasi tuned Nova something. I went to Sweden to watch the finales day

Looked like Natales engnie also ran well. I have become a Nova dealer now, as the Os branded engnies are to expensive. They are vey good but to expensive.

My modded Elite 5 holds them on the straight and is just as smooth as the 2101. The 2101 is a tad crisper, but it coasts 3 times an Elite 5... Customers that have bought the Elite 5 from me are very very satisfied.

I have Mantras coming next week. Hope i get them ran in for our nats in 14 days

What does "popularity" mean? Can go two ways:'one, popularity for watching and paying attention to "pros", and paying 400 bucks per engine. Or two, popularity for ordinary racers, now able to buy good engines from novarossidirect for much, much cheaper. I'll take the second any day of the week over the first. I couldn't care less about "pro" toy car racers and what they do or what they run or anything else… Give me good quality affordable engines, and that seems to be what NR is concentrating on now. And good on them for it…

I don't care how good a Speed is. I'm not paying $400+ for an engine. And now especially not that NR is affordable.

I have to totally agree. All of my buddies are running OS or OS based engines. They do perform well, but cost way too much for the little edge they think they have. They are a pain in the butt to break in and don't last as long as other brands as from what I've seen.

I've been running a Nova BTT/WC at almost every race this year. It is super smooth, easy to drive, and excellent on fuel. I did some minor port and timing work on her and there is not a lot that can touch her on the straight. When I need more grunt for short run-ups to jumps, I mount my Picco 5TB (Sorry, haven't picked up a Nova for the job yet.) I'll definitely be picking up a Mantra and Rolling for next season to have both jobs covered.

The only other brand that I've run that provides the same bang for the buck as Nova is Werks. Ron has some excellent engines in his selection for great prices also. I still run a Werks pipe (2058) on my Novas. Great power, and excellent runtime. If you haven't tried one, I would highly recommend it. Great all around pipe.

The same with Alpha engines.....
