JOE,
CRE is the real deal. Neal is very knowlegable with all motors and problems. CRE Team is huge. They are a very reputable company. The only thing you know about motors are the airfilters. You only know if its dirty and if its time to change it. Let's face it ED is the brains behind Lucky 7 engines. The CRE engines ran flawless at silverstate this weekend. No FLAME OUTS and no one running out of fuel in 9 mins. So for you people who have questions Neal is your man and Houston. They are the nova experts. I am not choosing sides on this silly disscussion:rolleyes: but I will say IMO, Joe IS very knowledgable with engines and all other aspects of racing rc cars. He learned many things from Ed, as did others plus many years of real track testing and racing at a high level:tire: You can find truth in many statements on the novarossi, CRE, houston, and L7 threads, for instance "o'donnell glow plugs do suck" "os plugs slightly lower compression but do work fine in nova engines" "there is no issue with L7 air filters" Those of us that have been doing this a while know this but many people are knowledgeable on nitro engines. some of them are on here:D some are not:spidey: some are in jail:deathstar some have moved on to other things:cool: and some actually dont care to share info from a desk and keyboard:batman: |

So what is the best/most common practice on air filter changes. Pre-oiled, not pre-oiled, what type of oil to use? Proper cleaning of the fiilter assembly? This seems to be the main problem with engines getting hurt, just curious what everyone does? Does Nova have a guideline?
And I oil my own filters, and I use several different oils...depending if I am at my house or my shop LOL...... I also judge the airfilters performance by the crankshaft...the more scratches on the crankshaft, the more dirt that has been ingested ! doesn't matter how clean the filter looks on the inside, its the marks on the crankshaft that tell the true story ! .. |

Just got 2 BTT's, one Toro Nero and a 9901/29 pipe set from a XRAY team member for whom I break-in his engines (Ninjas now). Don't know if there are too worn out to run ok, but I will for sure give it a try :). The crank pin on the Toro is only 4,85 mm, so as far as I know, its damn close to be too small. Time will tell :)

I beehive a big issue is many of the filters are just too small......... The worst offender being the Losi filter setup.... I see the most contaminated engines with this setup..... The best filter is the OS filter setup.... I have found he old school single stage marshmallows protect the engine much better then the new smaller two stage filters.....I also have had good luck with the classic OFNA filters, but they are a little large for a Buggy.............. We have also seen good results with the outerwears filter bag.... So in summary a single stage is better then a two stage, and the larger the filter diameter the better......

Looking for feedback on the new keep off vs btt. Is it worth the extra money to get the keep off? What differences have you guys noticed running both?
|
Thanks!

pretty much the same engine difference is the rear bearing and the block made to fit the rear bearing...
