Question guys. I am sorry to ask a question like this but its been a subject going on in my region. On the Btt and bonito motors which have the low profile cooling head, do they tend to show extreme head temps? I helped local guy tune in a bonito and I was able to get the motor just stupid fast and it was in the 210 range. This was during a very mild Texas winter. I ask this because a lot of other people that own/run these motors say that they operate anywhere between 265-330. The 300+ mark just seems a bit much. I leave the temp gun in my pit bag and just go by ear and smoke. If I temp a motor its after I have tuned it as a reference. Just wanting to know if there is any truth behind this.

If the engine is running good, has smoke and sounds good...I could care less what the temps are running at. As you state, reference purposes only. Engine temps have many variables such as fuel type, clutch, driving style, etc. which make a big difference between two similar engines in the same climate.

Yes they do run a little hotter with the lower head. But I would call 280 the max. Nova recommends IIRC 160 or 165 over ambient temp for max temp. If its running great at 210, keep it there. My Btt runs anywhere between 240 and 265. anything more then 265 I am looking for binding in my drive train, failing clutch, damaged fuel or pressure line etc. Same as you I only temp as a referance after break in.

What shims does a stock Plus4 BTT WC come with? It's not clear to me from the included paper work.

I guess I just want to know if it's ok as is with Odonnell 25% Speed Blend.

Thx,
JJ

Thanks. I did have a look but it took me forever to get the head off. Those head bolts were frickin tight!

Will os plugs work in a nova motor in a pinch?

this question has sparked so much debate its ridiculous butttttt the answer is of course it will , it will deform the head button and will pose a chance of possible improper fit when switching back to any other brand

Buy one brand and stick to it! Don't run out! Just like fuel. Why put yourself thro the hassle? I don't get it! If your running low on beer, you will buy or have someone pick some up for you. Do the same with your plugs people!:eek::weird::nod::lol:
I've switched from werks to os and back and fourth several times and never had a problem. I don't tighten them with a breaker bar neither. For the record, I run os plugs for there consistency...

Racing a long main with multi pits rather then a single tank sparks different challenges

On the low pro heads if your worried about additional heat just lean'em the speed with make you forget about your temp :-)

The SS Cronopipes is called Tenax.

Tenax is a manufacturer, IIRC. Similar to Hipex who makes a bunch of pipes as well.

I it wrong to ask who makes a 2032 SS then ?

If JP is not SS.

A little late, but we've got a few (five) 2032 pipes coming in next week for anyone wanting to try them. They are supposed to be bit thicker than the old JP 2032 pipes, but I haven't held one yet.

Hi Guys, I ran my motor (P5xlt) yesterday and only managed a 3/4 lap and motor died. On investigation, the tank was empty and chassis flooded with fuel. Thought hole in the tank, stripped and tank but it was fine, went out again, same issue. Tune was horrible. I then noticed the low speed needle had worked it`s way completely out and only in place by a thread or so. Fuel was running down the side of the motor. Issue I have now is even if i screw it back in, it is not secure enough and worried it will work free again. Any ideas what to do to secure the low speed. Do I need to replace the o-rings. Motor only 4 months old now. Added some green slime which helped but that was a temporary solution.
