Yup. Ruined the whole engine..... scratched it all up real nice.

Just an excuse to buy a new engine

I wonder how rare this is. Theres a chunk of the inner race of the rear bearing missing, has anyone else heard of this happening to anyone else?

Maybe dirt got in there, or a manufacturing defect. Bearing only had 1/2 gallon on it....

I once remember someone telling me that a super hot plug advances timing. And combine that with a super agressive motor you will get predetination, and this will lead to a early destruction of the rear bearing for the fuel supply is combusting befor the piston reaches TDC.

Guess this holds some truth since we all know choppers liked his P4 in his Nova P5.

he was shimmed correctly for a P4 tho...... it was bearing failure and the third such I have seen this season.... inner race explodes , tho the rest of the bearing stays intact....

Interesting, All one manufacture of bearing or several?

Wouldn't I have noticed predetonation though? The engine was in its prime and I did notice a difference switching to a P4 plug from a C5TGC, and that was a stronger idle and more torque, maybe I'm crazy, but thats what I noticed, and it was on the spot, shut engine off, changed plugs to a P4, and noticed the idle right when the engine fired.

I will run Nova plugs on my new Bonito though, until I get the urge to try a P4 plug in there :)

here is one of the bearings I seen blow this way....this was from a stock engine to boot...the others modified....but they were a different brand of bearing in a different engine altogether..... this was from a stock P5, the other was a mod P5 the other a mod Fire 11...2 of the bearings were TKO, the other was a Novarossi.............
