Something else to think about with all of this plug BS. If you are in a colder climate, the hotter plug may work better for you. The guy in NY may have a better experience up there with a hotter plug (P4 or C5) since it is cooler/colder there compared to where I am in Texas. I use C6 plugs since it is warmer here.
Everyone's environment is a little different, so if it works for you where you are doesn't mean it is the absolute answer. It is just the best answer for you in your environment. Like I always post. Just give the engine what it needs. I guess the magic is being able to determine what the engine needs. ;) Although reading the plug debate/argument is funny, it is a waste of thread space and time. |
Nobody cares why some have problems and some don't. Great conclusion.

Someone should pitch a reality TV show / soap opera called "As the engine turns"....
So if (I would side with yes) the button is deformed by an OS plug, is the seal some are getting simply created by the threads? Or does all this metal expand enough at 220C to fit the plug nice and tight anyways? I just changed the glow plug in my Plus4 the other night for the first time since break-in (after reading a post by Monty suggesting they be changed often instead of waiting for an issue to arise - duh?). I'm just at the 2 gallon mark. Nova C5TGC plug and CRE/Werks fuel by the way. Raced at 5-35C, dry, windy, raining, etc... without a single tuning issue and I've got all the power I need. I'm a don't touch it if it's working kind of guy. |

I'll try to get it tuned on the nova plug as well as the P4 plug in my video and show that they are easily interchangeable, with no problems. I'll mess up the needles a little so I can show every body the engine being tuned with both plugs on the video. I noticed a performance increase with the P4 plug so Im sold on it. |

I was using a C5 right before I switched to the P4. This was a few weeks ago, it was around 85 degrees here at that time.

I dont think this plug debate is BS and its all very informative. These threads are all for debate, disscussion and people to share there experinces , knowledge and insite.

85...woohoo..wish I had 85. That is almost cold to me. I was at 105 a few weeks ago. Still above 95 mostly.

I agree. One of the awesome things about rc tech is we can talk about rc car stuff and get different perspectives. If you are against discussion then go do something else.
what's with the thread police mentality? Exactly. |

I wouldn't put a O.S. plug in your Nova ever it has a different taper/thread and will make button seal bad IF you go back to a Nova or Odonnell plug! I have seen it first hand more than once and you really need to try a OD 77t plug or 97t if it's dry air. I have ran Novarossi for awhile and I ran Nova plugs at first and they lasted but had to be dead on with lsn or flames at end of straights or in the pits so I was told to give the hotter OD 77t($5 each) a try or if it's cooler outside than 80f try a OD 97t. I agree 100% with the advice on tuning so lean the lsn until it picks up rpm then drop idle if needed and if it lean bogs after tuning richen until it don't. IMO also Novas are really sensitive to a rich bottom because most are great on runtime per tank and flame when they load up easily. Good Luck!

what's with the thread police mentality? myself I do like debating technical aspects of the hobby without the influence of political BS that usually goes on with those types of topics......Most of the time people are more interested in acting out personal vendetta's then they are with actually discussing things from a neutral technical standpoint.....Unfortunately this clutters up the threads and results in much of the good information getting lost in drama.... unfortunately much of the time it seems like it matters more who's right then it matters what facts are right........... anyways me personally I assume nothing and am always open to learning and discovering new things, I am very careful to not to make any judgements too fast, and that everything needs to be tested, tested and tested again before one should believe or assume anything..... The more humble one approaches life, the more one will learn from life.. ....All season long I test engines, pipes, clutches and fuel as its my job to do so... I get to work closely with a solid group of very experienced racers, which gives me a phenomenal insight into what works and doesn't work for a broad spectrum of racers... it can actually be quite humbling to try to make everyone happy ! |
I've been running an OS plug after I saw the pictures which proved they were both 60 degree angles.
I just make sure to not overtighten the plug. |
