I just wanted tot take a second to congratulate Jeremy Kortz for an excellent drive at the Dirt Nitro Challenge winning the Pro Truggy B main, bumping to the A and engine up 9th! Kortz was running a box stock B5-Pro with 2058 pipe set, #5 Werks plug and Werks 30% "Race Blend" fuel!

That's the combo most guys have settled on here in New Zealand that run truggy. The Werks #5 plug with the 30% Werks Race Blend fuel is a nice combination for our climate. The 2058 still gives mega bottom end with this set up, and gives approx 45 sec - 50 sec more run time compared to the 2013 (which is illegal here anyway under IFMAR rules). The boys are loving the Werks gear down here  |
Piston Locking Tool
What's the best way to lock the piston remove/install the flywheel nut? Should I be looking at the glow plug tool or the crankshaft tool? I'm seeing some negative things about the glow plug tool.
Loving the B5 Pro motor by the way. It took the win the first time out after the break-in was done. Plus I'm just shy of 9 minutes with your tuning tips and some expert help track side. |

Thanks for using our products and glad that you are liking the motor! In regards to your question I never use those piston stoppers, imho it puts un-needed stress on the rod bushing. I simply grab the flywheel with a large set of channel locks and then tighten/loosen the flywheel nut with either a socket or t-handle wrench.
Would you suggest the B5 Pro or a B6 Pro for a truggy? The B6 literature made it sound more ideal for a buggy. I'd like to stay with you guys if I pull the trigger on a truck. |
Hi Ron,
I just received a new batch of plugs, and they look to be made by a different company. They're a different colour, shape, seal and coil. They're also no longer in a blister pack. Whats the reason for the change? |

That's how I installed the flywheel but I guess I wasn't liberal enough with the loctite. The nut backed off enough to let the flywheel spin. It just took a bit to get everything apart. We reassembled everything the same way but used a shim behind the new collet and a little more loctite this time.

Medium to large track - 2058 pipe (plenty of bottom, strong mid and top) Smaller tighter tracks - 2013 pipe (more bottom, strong mid with less top, and less runtime). |
What pipe are they using with the B5 for 1/8 GT onroad?
I see a lot of guys using them. |

Its not just a package change. The plug is different as well. I understand company's make changes. I'm just curious why you have changed the plug. The Werks plugs were amazing, hence why I run them. I've been ordering them in because the plugs have been hard to get locally. The new one looks like a picco plug which if it is I could have just bought them here cheaper. Werks plugs were the only plug i could get to survive in my FX engines. being they look like a different plug im a little hesitant to just throw one in and expect the same result.
I have no problem with the change as picco plugs are great as well. I'm just curious why it was changed Left is the Werks plug I just received. Right is the Werks plug I already had. Attachment 1170813 Attachment 1170814 Attachment 1170815 if they havent changed should i start to suspect that tower have sent me a dodgy batch of plugs |

Performance is just like the "older" blister pack plug - awesome. When our stocks of the blister pack plugs ran out, we just made a seamless change to the current model, no problems whatsoever. Heat range seems the same. We carry the #5 and #6 plugs (as well as the full range of Werks products including the Race Blend fuel). Guys are finding the current Werks #5 plugs perform and last extremely well, so I doubt you will have any issues. Ron wouldn't have made them available if they were not an improvement, or at the least the same performance wise as the previous model. Why the change - that's Ron's department :) |
Just picked up a new b5 that I will be putting in my d8t and breaking in next week.
Been out of nitro for a while and am really looking forward to breaking in this fine Italian race engine. Here's to hoping the northeast warms up and nitro season getting started. |
