I always set my gap with restrictor in and full open never past restrictor opening.

Like Quad said, You can set the Idle gap either way, very simple. Restrictor on or off? Doing this for a year now, I like to set it up with the restrictor IN, no tuning problems so far.

I'm sure it doesn't matter either way, but if you measure .7mm with the venturi in and measure .7 with it out, you will have a difference there.

Just something to think about...

.7 with it in
.5 with it out.

Thanks Mo! Maybe we can put this info on the first post?

yeah it might help, I know there is some confusion on this topic and also this is just a really close setting to start with, you still may end up .1 plus or minus either way... for example if I measure my engine all broke in and race tuned it is .4 without restrictor in.

once again strictly starting points....

Mine are all pretty simple...With the restrictor in I can just BARELY see a gap...once i see any sight of gap i know its close! Finnally got a 2013 pipe to replace my 2035 that i liked so much with the engine, can't wait!

Get ready to rip! The 2013 will be a big difference!

I went from an old xtech 2013 pipe with an old junky header to a brand new Orion 2013 and saw a huge difference. I really love this engine now.

Yeah that's close enough I guess. I would think if people are measuring .7 or .8 with the restrictor out, and it should be .4 or .5, I would imagine the LSN would be off somewhat for them.

Personally I don't have a problem with the tune on mine, I just run my gap to where I can barely see it with the restrictor in, and my engines are pretty dialed.

I see alot of people having problems with surging idles, and 2 sometimes 3 stage idles, this could be the problem.

I want to get a 5.5 venturi for my B5 - does anyone know who has compatible venturi's that fit a B5 with a pre-2010 carb?

deweyharding 02-18-2011 09:52 AM

Rick,
I got one I'll be at Rotunda this weekend.

I hope you are a experienced tuner because anything lower than a 6.5-6.0 restrictor makes the tuning window very small.. Not sure why your needing a 5.5 anyways? mine Werks b5/2035 combo with a stock 7.0 gets no less than 10min runtime every track i run on...
