Default Few questions?

Ok so I have been planning on running a vspec again this year. This year is a little different as I'm trying to keep it as afordable as possible.

I am looking at either the stock .21 or the race prep. What is the difference. How does the js compare to the os?

Also how is the carb on this engine, there are lots of great engines with bad carbs

I'm looking at ordering either a dyn 053 or 086 pipe. What would you recommend

I live in Colorado springs co and all of our tracks are between4700 and 5700 ft in elevation. I run 40% Byrons prodriver. What plugs do you suggest. Do the odonnel 77t or 99t plugs work as well,'or are the os plugs the way to go. Also any head shimming adjustment needed with my set up.

The stock .21 comes just like every other engine on the market. The Race Prepped engine is hand built, fully inspected, bearings aligned, etc. And most importantly it's broken in for you, so all you need to do is put it in your car and go race. No need for the headache of breaking it in on your own.

If you're going to buy a dynamite pipe for it, order the 2081 (DYNP5008) before the 053 or 086. The 053 seems to create a weird hesitation on power and the 086 makes the power band hit too hard for buggy.

As for plugs you can run the dynamite #4 (xtra hot) plugs to help with the elevation and save some money over the OS plugs. You may need to add an extra head shim as well but with 40% nitro and an extra hot plug it may run fine right out of the box.

i went ahead and ordered the stock version, with some p4 plugs. i will look into the 081 pipe, i liked the 053 and 086 becuase of the price and because its hard annodized..

So the 2081 is the way to go for a buggy? Looking for as smooth of a powerband as I can get.

Well with shockers suggestion I ordered up an engine with the 2081 dyn pipe.

Do you guys have a standard needle setting for when the engine is fully broken in.

If you're running 40% at 5,000ft. Their needle settings won't be of much use to you.

Default Tuning Issues at the PNB

I bought a new .21 race prep to use in my buggy at last week's Psycho Nitro Blast and struggled with getting a decent tune with it all 4 days. Granted it was brand new when I got to the race, but I ran through 2 tanks on my starter box, then ran 3 tanks very conservatively on the track in my buggy. It ran fine when I was putting around the track, but when I started to get on the throttle after running the 5 first tanks, I couldn't get it to tune. (Running Byrons 30% and OD 97T plugs) I leaned it an hour on top from the box stock settings and it ran OK, then after a few more tanks, I leaned it another hour to start to work on my race tune, but it still wouldn't clear out on top. I tried several pipes - 086, 2039, 2050 and 9901, but it still wouldn't produce much top end. I tried leaning it out 1, then 2 hours more, with each of the pipes, but then I started to lean bog. Needless to say, it wasn't easy to run competitively during qualifying. (Lean bogging right before the huge triple made me come up way short several times and I broke an a-arm in 1 qual.)

Any advice on what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to get this engine to run? I'm not going to give up on it yet, but the engine was definitely NOT ready for a race tune right out of the box!

if you over lean the hsn the bottom will bog. back out the hsn a little at a time till it dont bog coming off the corner, then start leaning the bottom till it rips and idles good. the top wont really come alive till after about a gallon of fuel.
