When you say ".6mm", are you talking about the gap between the throttle slide and the end of the opening? If this is the case how would you measure it?

Thanks
1airborne

A properly sized drill bit works well for setting the initial measurement.

that was a great tip Kyle , kudos bro!!

kyle said he used a .6mm drill bit to obtain proper idle gap setting over the phone today , very good idea

I dug through the wife's sewing needles and pins and found some that were .55mm and some that were .63mm. That was as close as I could get, but they work great and I keep them stuck in my radio/charger case in one of the dividers so if someone needs it or a referance to the size at the track i have it handy.

Monty,

Raced the Truggy again last Sat. Tried a OD99T and no bueno. Chased the tune 3/4 od the day. Even got a little help from som eof the guys that know Rossi's and it was all I could do to get it running right. Popped a C6TGC back in there (only had a used one left) and with a slight retune, super bueno.

Also found that when the chassis braces are loose at the center mounts on the chassis, the flex just kills the mill. I almost thought it might be because the tune was still off, but checked the braces after my pit guy asked if that would be a cause of the phantom flame outs after a couple of the jumps. Sure enough, that was a big part of the issue. Too bad I didn't get it all figured out sooner.

We'll see how she runs next time with the proper plug in there. LOL.

I did manage to pull off some Lutz style back flips at the end of the main. Truck and mill were fast, driver not so much. 95 degree heat can do that. LOL

Monty- if you get a chance can you give me a call this morning? No big deal if you can't, just wanted to talk with you again on this engine.

Monty....I had a chance to put some fuel through the FM X3L engine today. I put almost 2 quarts through it....next time out I plan on changing the venturi and plug so I can get a race tune on it. So far so good....I like the power delivery of the engine and the engagement of the buku clutch. Very nice combo....

nrm1977 05-20-2012 04:48 PM

Monty- I have been race tuning my 4btt I bought from you a few weeks back. I had the bench break in procedure by you and I finished breaking in the engine with another 2000cc. Total about a gallon.

The issue at hand is flame outs. I had a bunch of them yesterday. Now, the only time it was flaming out was down the straight WHEN I would let off throttle. Temps are 230-255ish. Needles both about flush. I'm using the blue carb 6.5mm restricker. I'm also using the c5tgc. I did change to a new plug to see if that prevented the flame outs....no luck. Also, the temp was hot and humid yesterday...about 88 (wi). So, not sure if that could've been a issue....Any idea's? Thanks in advance bro!

PS- Nice race win! Just placed a order for some c6 plugs!! You da man!!!

TQ and the W this weekend for my X7 in truggy. Engine never missed a beat. Not sure what 2nd place guy was using but he had some big thunder. LoL. Luckily things worked out in my favor.

I can't wait till Jmac's engine fully breaks in. Next weekend it should be ready to rock for the Jconcepts race. Can't wait to see if it does.

Teufel Racing 05-21-2012 07:17 AM

Hey Meister,

Mill was super bueno yesterday. Got a TQ and Win while setting the track fast lap for the season so far.

Not sure what I was doing different tuning wise on the mill, but I did a slight retune from where it was the week before and it was good all day. Didn't change the needles all day. Did a few temp checks through out the day just to see how the weather was affecting the mill. Was a solid 233 all day. Was slightly rich when the mill was cool, or it would load up a little bit of I let it idle too long (as happened right before the main waiting for a racer to make the start), but man it was good.

Byron's Pro Driver
7mm restrictor
C6TGC
2096/021 pipe/header
88 degrees
About 5-10% Humidity

I just love race days where there's no tuning issues and the mill just runs. Other than a flame out from letting the mill load up from waiting for the main to start, it was solid. Couldn't be happier. Still don't know why I couldn't get the OD plug to work right that last time I ran. Probably something I was doing wrong.

In case you forgot today Mr. You rock!! Thanks for doing what you do.

Oh yeah,
