Hey....have you tuned a x3 yet?

Everything is the same as that black headed n21bf limited I did for you except it has a newer long low speed needle carb, much better!

Have I mentioned I REALLY like the X7 with 9901ss/41021 in buggy?

Very very good , its gonna double duty for both a mains tomorrow buggy and truggy !

Teufel Racing 03-27-2011 03:47 PM

Monty,

I guess you gat a "Pass" on that responce, as I did ask for the rule of thumb. LOL. I figured there are many things that can go into shimming the head on these motors. Add in all the different motors out there and I bet it gets worse to a point. Just figured that would be a good question for ya. I don't have that many so I have to use them wisely. LOL.

Ultraspeed84 03-27-2011 08:29 PM

Monty got 1 quart fuel through the p5xlt! seems like once i get little more fuel on motor and start to lean it out this thing will be a beast.!!! Brake in has went really well with this motor. The last time i had a motor brake in like this one it lasted forever and made some mad power. It looking good homie thanks for the work!

glad to hear that bro, keep me posted please , i love to hear your guys' honest opinions on how you feel the engines work

copied from the 3,5,7 port thread;)
from the old adage 7 ports have less torque
i guarantee you that will change when you drive the new X7 !! ran it in the buggy this weekend at the lunsford state cup challenge after a complete rebuild :)(which oregon ended up winning) , it did EVERYTHING i wanted an engine to do , TQ'd buggy , messed around in truck in the 3rd round and my good friend ended up TQ'n truck , i ended up 2nd but i decided not to run the mains today and instead spent some quality family time in Bend,OR

setup was X7 silicone filled crank/ceramic balls/7mm/c5tgc/9901ss/41021 @225° with byrons gen2 race 3000 (again still breaking the engine in) , engine was still breaking in , track was big , loose loamy and runtimes were right in the 11-11.5 min range judging on how much left in the tank after running for about 9min during quals and warmups

they will be here soon

My Nova +4c has about 4 1/2 gallons on it and seems to be losing power lately, but it still has a ton of pinch left. I was wondering if removing the thin head shim to give it more compression would help it gain some power back before I do a total rebuild on it? All the internals still look good, I just want to get some of the power back that it had at around 3 gallons.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Your Original Reply-I wouldn't recommend taking the .20mm shim completely out but replace it with a .10mm

Hey Monty-

I searched everywhere for a .10mm shim for my Nova +4C but couldn't find any Nova head shims that indicated they were compatible with the +4C, so can you let me know which Nova shims are compatible or if any of the shims I have lying around from old engines might work for now (GRP Tuned .21, Werks B5 & B6, Argus 5-port, LRP .21X, Vspec .21)?

Also, in about 2 weeks once a commission check finally comes in, I'm going to be buying a new engine for my 8ight 2.0 truggy, which I want to get a few gallons through before I race the Alabama Manufactures Cup in late June. I've already decided I'm going to buy a Fusion from you, but which engine do you advise that I purchase for the truggy? Might as well recommend a pipe too, since I'm planning on getting a whole new powerplant for it. I definitely want decent run time (8-9 min. minimum), but the Cup race and here in FL, low-end grunt is a necessity.

Thanks,

Rick

not Monty.. but X7 HLX (I'll let monty handle the acronyms)with 2084 and 41021 header is what i ordered for my truggy.. or you can try the 9853...

Thanks for the input. I already have a 41021 header and a 9853 pipe, so that's a good start! I know it says "wicked torque" in the decription of the X7 HLX on the website, but I'm a little hesitant about getting a 7-port engine for a truggy. I'm thinking a 7-port wouldn't have the snap off the bottom that I want/need for the tracks I typically run on. Monty?

Ambros303 03-28-2011 12:31 PM

As for the head shims

Straight from the Nova site:

http://www.novarossi.it/files/explod...-4C%20TEAM.pdf

03002 (0.15mm)
03001 (0.10mm)
03004 (0.25mm)

I'm pretty sure Monty will have them if you drop him a PM...else try Amain.

i wont worry about it.... Monty has said this engine is a P5xlt with more top end... the number of ports is not as important as the placement of the ports

+1,

Seen the X7 first hand at the Nitro Challenge. Plenty of bottom end grunt for a Truggy. Very impressed to say the least.

houston 03-28-2011 04:41 PM

as i am the only one who has ran the X7 i kinda hate to make a statement about the performance as it makes me feel and sound biased

i ran the X7 in buggy this weekend with a 9901ss/41021 and i must say , very impressed to say the least  i know that the performance in the truggy will be every bit as good , every single engine i have thrown in the truggy in the last few months has made no power on the top end so i need to get that figured out before i can make a full description as to each of the engines power characteristics . this weekend i broke in a 5+2 port configuration in a p5xlt case with a 15007t silicone filled crank , 9853ss/41021 then i switched to the 9901ss/41021 , i put a new tank and still no change in power delivery , always had killer low and mid but never any top end powerband to speak of , this is not the first engine that i have ran in it and experienced the same thing so my conclusion is i need a new truck

i know that the engines are good , i know they will perform

btw , the X7's are here , i will have them by the end of the week or sooner ;)

i would recommend a p5xlt , houston tuned with silicone filled crank and 17011 front bearing , ceramic bearings are optional and your decision

the X7 has plenty for truck but if you are skeptical i wouldnt want you to purchase one until you feel they have proven themselves worthy in your opinion . i do not want or would not sell anybody anything they are unsure of

let me know if you need anything

as far as the shims , i believe i have some , they are around 2$ for one or around 10$ for the whole pack if i recall
