Monty,

I sent you a PM saturday and haven't heard back from ya. I'm sure you've just been busy but was really wanting your advice if you can find time.

Really not meaning to be pushy at all I just trust your opinion when it comes to engines.

Thanks,
Rich

houston,

there seems to be a notch at tdc with the head off and no compression on my engine. is this bad news? basically the piston reaches tdc and then i can move the crank about 15 degrees in any direction and the piston will stay stuck in the same spot. the engine is plenty broken in. but then with the head back on there is plenty of compression so you cannot feel the notch. does this make sense?

yes it makes sense and even a new engine has "some" rod slop at tdc , i usually check that at the start of the compression stroke for preliminary then take apart and measure everything . how much fuel through engine? sucked dirt? so many questions ;)

if you are worried about it i know where you can get a rod replaced :D:lol:

thanks for the reply! i know there are thousands of different variables and to get a real answer you would have to take a look at it, but i appreciate the insight and wont hold you to anything. there are likely no fewer than 6 gallons through the engine, and the top of the piston and sleeve walls look clean which leads me to believe there is no grime or dirt in there. i have just never really felt the notch before, but honestly dont think it is something that i have ever checked for in the past either.
