Perfect answer. My ol p5 was so perfect at droping right to a smooth idle, I ran it without a restrictor, it was so nice, I found another recently and left the 8mm restrictor on it and it doesn't drop quite the same, but in reality It takes a while to tune an engine perfctly. If I blip it during a fast idle it slows down just to perfect idle. I leaned the bottom then lowered the idle and it helped a little, but then I realized the main needle is still just above flush still as it is finally perfectly broken in, and is really just a little fat on the top, I'm conservative, but it mellows the engine a bit and is getting 8-9 minutes runtime, I usually get 9-10 so the slightly rich top is the one minute. Engines are like women, they run good but need TLC, often, that's why I like them I guess..my favorite is women are like ferrari's they run great, and fun to drive, but you have to take them to the dealer to get worked on, often,....I like your advice Houston, it's always right on, you know your engines....Nova engines are my favorite too. Freakin reliable, fast, and it's ust peace of mind at the track...
I do like the ferarri analogy though :-) |
Hey Monty,
Here is something I've always wanted to know. What is the main difference between the Smooth Headers and Square Bent Headers? I have never known the difference. :( |

Hey Monty,
Here is something I've always wanted to know. What is the main difference between the Smooth Headers and Square Bent Headers? I have never known the difference. :( The round headers create an open channel of the exhaust waves to move in and out between the exhaust pipe and the cylinder for scavenging . Excellent low end response with decreased powerband effect. The double bent or rb style or werks style headers all effect the reverberating pulses of the exhaust in different ways . I recommend 9853/41005 or 41001 as it smooths out the bottom of the exhaust and creates a more balanced feel from the pipe which yields great throttle response and excellent runtimes . Top end exhausts do not respond as well to the bent headers and will feel like they have a lean bog in the tune constantly . 9886/41021 or 41020 work awesome creating a hardcore powerband effect. This is a long discussion I speak on what pipes make novarossi engines do their magic |
Thanks Monty. Good info. That answered my question! :)

I got a modded engine of Monty and I have to say it's just awesome
I finally got it all broke in (n21bf) and it screamssss and I was much more consistent. thanks for the great engine and I can't wait to get more track time to try and shave some time off my lap times. |
Awesome!!!
Thanks for the feedback and I hope it lasts you for a long time , look me up when it needs serviced Thanks a bunch, Monty Www.houstonsengineservice.com. Remember to lean the low speed out when the "nuts drop" :-) |

Hey Monty, I know you suggest Odonnell 100 plugs for some of your engines, just wondering how they differ from a 99? I know Od's adds say 100's are for Monster trucks and 99's are for racing engines and both are Medium range plugs? Just asking, and you know for which engine:nod:
thanks Joe |
