Just because it goes above it out of the engine doesn't mean it does it in the engine.. I would say if it isn't staying tuned then you might be in need of a pinch.

+1

Check if it's doing it while installed in the engine ;)

And yes, looks like it needs a pinch :tire:

It does it in the motor. I took it out for the pic. That is the size of gap in motor

Could you have installed the piston backwards? The longer part of the skirt goes toward the exhaust port..

The long side of the piston is toward the exhaust port. I have checked all that stuff. I am sending it into horizon hobby to see what they say

Im running an Orion Discovery and was wondering if anybody is running strike team through it? If so was there anything u had to change on the motor to get a better tune for that particular fuel? Shim's, plugs...etc???

I got this slightly used from a friend that ran byron's in it. One gallon for break in and only one gallon of runs on it.

Thanks

Thanks MAXIMO ill give that a try. You think about an hour on top and bottom should do the trick on Flame outs after Refuel?? Or just bottom and/or top?? Thanks

Question for PITPOP

Just completed break in on a new Alpha 3 Port and first day at the track.
We live in a Dry high altitude setting (8500ft) and I can't seem to keep a glow plug in this engine. I'm getting 2-3 runs on a plug then it fails.
Engine temps were 220 degrees today, really good power.
Byrons Gen 2 30% fuel.
The manual does not touch on Head shimming for humid or dry locations etc.
Could drop to 20% fuel, any ideas?
I REALLY like this engine, but its a bit of a bummer to put in a new plug every tank or two of fuel. Any help would be appreciated?

Have u tried the #5 plugs yet maybe little cooler plug will last longer

Smiths123 09-07-2011 11:50 AM

I have tried a couple options in that direction from medium to medium-cold with the same result. I want to add a shim but I would like to get an Orion blessing on that before I just act. If the engine were out of warranty and acting up that would be a different story.
I have read several threads of this exact issue with varying input. My plug filaments are shiny clean and UN-fowled, simply broken, no melting or heat related indications and no odd vibrations that I can detect.
Horizon is contacting Orion to see what they say regarding shimming, fuel percentage and high altitude racing. I'd like to get this nailed so I can enjoy this Engine.

At $6.00 a pop I don't want to keep throwing money away, just tap some free knowledge if I can.

Adding another shim will not hurt themotor if u haveone try itshould get bit more fuel mileagebut do notknow if it will fix plug problem
