I will be looking for an orion alpha 5 port piston and sleeve set on my next parts purchase.

I was taking the back plate off to perform after run maintenance but unfortunately I had forgotten to make sure the piston was near tdc and unfortunately when I forcefully pulled off the back plate, I tore the longer edge of the piston off because the bottom of it had been in the groove of the back plate. The piston top surface has not been damaged but is missing its "Skirt" if you can understand that???

That's not the same stuff. The Super grease is in a tube and it's black. Pretty much like half way dried JB weld... :lol:

the best plug for team orion engine is team orion plug, #5 & 6... if you must use the OS plug, then the P4 is preferred... the p3 is not strong, if the engine even runs lean for one run, you need to change it

Hey PitPop, have you and Cody had much of a chance to run some of the cheaper "budget" engines yet?? I know Cody and you both have been really busy since winning the Worlds, but I remembered you saying that you had plans to do some testing on the lower priced motors..

last year I ran AE RC8T w/OS25xz, wasn't all that happy with the durability of the os and previous os engines I had in the past. I am looking at the Orion mills for 2011. I was thinking the .21abi 7 port or the .24abi 5+2 port motors. These both are quite expensive mills. Please give me feedback on ave. run times and comments on which to use and why. Please help me make up my mind. I generally race every weekend April to Nov.

The 5 port engines are plenty for buggy. We ran 7 port in Colorado because we were at 7000'. Normally the 7 port is a little much for a buggy. For truggy the 7 port is the way to go. Durability wise, you can't get much better than a Team Orion engine. If it's cared for properly and doesn't suck dirt, it will run a LONG time. The quality is second to none, especially with the new piston material and crank case on the WC edition engines. If set-up properly and with the proper fuel and such, the 5 port will run 10 minutes without too much trouble. Longer on high bite smaller tracks.

Not yet, but we have one ready to break in and run.

What is the normal life span on these engines?

I picked up one of the Alpha .21 5 port ABI engines today. Gunna wait till my Orion MTE quits on me before i really start running it though. Apparently it has ceramic bearings and all that jazz. Overall its typical looking orion quality and if it runs like my crf's do (not expecting the power, but the reliability, longevity, and easy tuning) it should be a winner at right around $200.

a buddy of mine bought a 3 port abi used with 6 gallons and it looks and feels like it has 2.
