When I asked my guy about getting another V11, he just laughed at me... :(

The modded V11 in my truck is ridiculous. The thing runs harder than my Boost .28 when leaned out a tick. Added a bunch of fuel back in just to make it an easier drive. I was pitting at the 8 minute mark, just to be safe, but after a 7 min qualifier I had about a 1/3 of tank left. I haven't temped this thing since the 2nd tank on the box. Well, I have temped it once getting it back inside, after being off for about 3 minutes, its at 180 or so.

Why did he laugh?

Got some info on the Blasts from Pete at Answer-RC (this dude has always been really cool and helpful in my experience..). I think though he mixed up the versions in the first sentence here, since in data sheets it clearly states the V9 is based off the C5...

"Both the V9 and V13 are long stroke so more linear than the C5 as they are long stroke (the C5 was short stroke)

I’ll be the first to admit that it gets rather confusing with the blast series.

One of our guys at the UK nationals this weekend gone was running the Blast V13 having previously been using a BXr. Though not quite as aggressive, it certainly didn’t seem short on performance by any means with a 2045 pipe on there and we had him on a 10minute run in the 20mi final on Sunday (he came in at 10:13) though in fairness it seemed a run time friendly track as I know one guy whom had calculated 12:40 run time who can’t always do 10.

Regarding the Blasts, we have had the V13 but looking at the data sheets for the V12 they seem to be identical in all aspects other than the crank (01167-14B on the V12 as opposed to 01167-14B1 and on the V13) certainly they use the same P/L/R set (01167-504) which is a 5+2 with MES though with a relatively small exhaust port which would suggest why they are smooth in power delivery.

01167-14B1 as per the V13 uses 1 tungsten balance weight in the crank.

I can’t comment on the V14 as I don’t have a data sheet nor can find one on the net, as we have never had the 14 I’ve not looked strongly into it.

On a side note there is also a V15 which we have a small amount of but have not publicised which uses two tungsten balance weights on the crank (crank part no 01167-14B2) but retains what is now seemingly the common to later blasts 01167-504 Piston and Liner set.

The V15 also uses a black crank case as opposed to the silver on the V13.

Hope that sheds some light on it for you."

Re the V9 vs. the others:

"To describe it as a on off switch is harsh, they are reasonable progressive and can be made more so with correct clutch tuning.

The V9 is certainly more aggressive than any of the later ones though I don’t think there would be much in between 11-15 though we haven’t had them all, less so run them all so I can’t give any concrete info.

I think you will struggle to get a definitive answer comparing all Blast variants as no country has had all variations."

A C5 is a long stroke, not a short stroke.....

Was just coming on her to say that

the C5 I have here is pretty much 100% identical to a C6 in any area that would affect performance.....

Herrsavage 08-07-2013 05:07 AM

So the MES exhaust makes no difference for performance?

C5 has MES..... same sleeve as a C6......... to me it seems like a C6 was just a renaming of a C5....... I don't know the history of it, but I have a old C5 here and it is no different then the old C6 I have here.......same engine, different label....

Herrsavage 08-07-2013 05:37 AM

In the V9 data sheet it says explicititly it's a 5+1 port made from C5 parts, but does not mention MES, whereas I think ALL of the other ones since the V8 do mention MES.. (Scratches head..) Pretty sure mine just has a big old single exhaust port.. Could look again though..

yes..... good mild mannered buggy engine...very stable and easy to tune, will run forever.... wont set any speed or power records, but a fine engine nonetheless ...probably not what you were looking for
