We haven't determined that after run oil breaks down the putty. You should be able to use it in our engine without issues.

As for the shims then engine comes with a .2 and a .3 installed and a .4 in the box. For break in I run the .2 and .3 and then after a gallon I put just the .4. Thats with 30% but it should work fine with 25%.

So what have you determined breaks down the putty? I only ask because I have two 121's. One had the insert come apart and one did not. The one that came apart was taken care of for me by Reedy (Thanks guys, great customer service!!). If there is something I can do to extend its service life. I want to make sure I am doing it.

It was just a cleaning problem in the manufacturing process. Only a small amount of engines have/had the problem and all new engines have cranks from an updated process.

Meh, it happens. Thanks for the information.

The run time and durability so far has been great to me. The high temps and tune ability would be a neg for me. Its holds a tune just hard to find it sometimes. Idles forever and the gas mileage is awesome! Its great for the price, I'm going to try a different brand of fuel this weekend and see what happens.

Oh, BTW the smoothest motor you'll ever find!

Hey guys I was breaking in the Reedy this weekend, it ran good but it started to run hot ? I had a od97t plug and running byrons gen 2 30% new springs and clutch shoes ? Any thoughts on how to get it around race tune ? I have 7 tanks through it already !

Chris Reilly 11-04-2009 08:12 AM

Race tune is 240-270. So what is hot to you ?

Scottmisfits 11-04-2009 08:26 AM

The glow plug does sit slightly higher as well so pull the temp gun away from the head a little when you take the temp.

I found this out a little while ago. I was always tuning around 260 with the temp gun right on the head. Ran great even like that.

I would not worry much about head temps and just make sure you have plenty of smoke coming out of the pipe. At the CO State Championship race there were three of us running the Reedy engine and all three of us were running head temps at 290-310 deg.

Well 293 is hot to me ? I ran a couple more tanks after riching top and bottom a hour and it got done at 273 in a rc8t ? Is that safe to run and what plugs work best ? Thanks

John, call me. I will meet you at the Silverbowl and put a race tune on it for you. I was talking with brandon, and he was telling me how it went. 501 2530

Bigedmond 11-04-2009 11:41 AM

At proline Gas Champs, my truggy motor got to 340 because of a ripped pressure line. The motor still runs, and still have tons of pinch. This motor can take some heat.

That is about par for the course on a new motor. I broke in a new engine for a fellow racer who purchased a Reedy, and even running rich by sound, smoke, and performance his came off at 290, until about the 5th tank around the track, then we were around 275 with better performance. The engine had 8 heat cycles before race day. It will run hot for the first gallon and then once it loosens up, a normal temp is 250-290 for a solid performance tune, depending on fuel and lube package.
