Go-Tech Engines Thread

I am in New Zealand, so the postage would probably be as much as the pinch bolt assembly
.I am sure the USA GO agent will have one - I am assuming you are in the USA

Reading through the many pages of posts, it seems the MG66 is getting good reviews. I'd really like to try one, but although I see dealers listing the Go GSX engines, no listing for the MG66. I'd hate to have to email/phone concerning an engine that is not listed on a website. So where does a CA boy get a MG66 without going all the way to Australia? Would TNT Hobbies be the only stateside supplier?

Hi Rex, Now that you and Kendall have had a play with the new GX motors, and I am guessing the MG66 as well - what are your thoughts on the new range ? I am getting nothing but positive feedback from my customers here.

I was racing last night, in door gas track, and it was cold like 40. Degrees I think. The old 5 port I got would not keep a tune, it would start and run but I had to keep leaning it out all night, every time we ran the truggy we had to lean it!!!!! The 5 port had a pinch on it, the track was small, some we ran a 053 pipe on it,

were staying up above 210f or so? Did you try
wrapping the cooling head with anything?

Just a thought for running in cold temps (ie 40f), change to a hotter plug for starters, this will enable you to get an idle much easier as your motor will drop temp much quicker due to ambient conditions. One thing that sparked my interest was that you are leaning on it when its colder. This will lean your motor quite considerably, when its cold, air is denser so you need to add fuel to get the same air fuel mixture ratio, so you should be richening it.
Keeping in mind that at high altitude air is thinner and at low altitude air is densor and then you need to take into account the barametric pressure etc and the air conditions where you are racing, indoor have much more poluted air thus less oxygen, out doors has cleaner air thus more oxygen, city more polution, country less polution.
If you have this problem again, I would suggest you run the hotter plug (ie OS/Ninja P3) and set you motor back to factory settings and tune from there. You will probably find you get better results. Having said that, if your racing in a shed, the longer the night goes on, the more polution in the air in the shed which could mean you need to lean it, though not much.
Hope that helps??
EDIT: on the occasions I run my vehicles indoors, tuning has always been a pain in the ass as the air consistancy keeps changing. Always tune to performance and never temp, the only reason I ever temp a motor is to loosely check that its in temp range of best performance and I do that by putting a bit of saliva on the head of the motor, not with a temp gun, you soon figure out that your withing tolerance or not.

Yes I did check,, after 4-5 laps on this small track the temps was 137. Degrees and very fat on top an bottom??????? Some we leaned 2 hours at a time on both needles. The temps on the motor never got over 215. All night???.

I am loving the GX7 port that I am running...... Its absolutely awesome ! wicked mileage and awesome power and RPM, the bottom end is strong and the top end is insane, likely one of the revviest offroad .21's I have ever seen.... On the 2072 it sound sick !!! the tune is easy and the running characteristics are fantastic.......It has the long LSN and it works very well, I can't understand why people were having such issues with it, IMO this engine tunes stupid easy... Of course my GX7 is modified, but even still the GX7 gives me a good base to work from.......

Kendall has raced the Gx 5port, he just won yesterday at the first race of the winter points series at Extreme Rc in Iowa. I didn't go along but he said it ran awesome, and loves the 2072 pipe. Since he is Sponsored by Go he isn't supposed to run the Mg66. It actually is getting cold here and I think I may wait until spring to try the Mg66, I hate to run a new motor when it's below 0deg celsius.

Glad to hear you boys are liking the new motors.Maximo, your right on with the long needle tuning - it is stupid easy, especially with the new version GX carbs. They do seem to tune, and hold their tune very well. It all revolves around leaving that HSN alone. Once you have run the motor in, set it (barely changes from factory flush setting) and forget it
.All the new GX range are sweet performers. It seems they have the edge on the older Pro Series out of the box. The 5's and 7's are killer, plus the 3 is a sleeper. Don't be fooled by the humble 3 Port, they are a weapon with the right clutch set up

Yes... the 3 port has some ridiculous bottom end!
Some updates- I know it's been a while, but we've made some progress on the web site over the weekend. I just sent some engines and my (now) sparkling clean losi buggy over to the photographer to shoot on Tuesday. I'm hoping to get some action shots later this week.
Also, the next shipment of engines is due to ship this week. I'm stocking up on 5-ports and 7-ports... both in solo and combo form. Additionaly, I'm getting more carbs, screws, seals, cases, bearings, etc.
More to come!
