here's what you can do.
first tighten the clutch nut with your hand. now use a plier that can extend out, make sure you have a firm grip and also use towel around the flywheel (we don't want to have a scratch on our new flywheel right?) and use a socket ranch.
if you do this correctly you won't damage your engine.

as long as you have a firm grip on the flywheel, engine won't turn over.

I use a flywheel wrench from Ofna to hold my flywheel and lock it with my Hudy wrench (or u can lock it using those 4in1 glow plug wrench). Hold the flywheel wrench and turn the nut wrench in and tighten it. Soo below site of how the flywheel wrench looks like.

http://www.ofna.com/tool-glow.html

The only time i use the piston locker is when i need to take out the clutch bell and change my pinion gears. DO NOT use the piston locker to thighten the 10mm nut onto the flywheel as u put a stress on the conrod.

btw, i always use the collet that comes with the engine, in my opinion, they are a lot better.

If u ask 100 people......different people have different opinion. You can never decide and it make more worst. Since u got a race car, its time for u to make your own dicision and experience your choices u make. Just my 2 cents worth.

Newer 705 kits now have a grub screw on each 2 speed shoe, is this really a big issue or not that important. This would get the two shoes closer to the housing.

7.0 Gearbox Assembly
Step 7.1

Realy easy I would guess to modify our current Shoes to also have grub screws I guess if it is an important adjustment to make.

Also would part number 909335 Rear Anti-Rollbar for the 950 work on the 705.

Picture on buttom of this link...

Default Q & A

I haven’t really had any problems with my 2speed without that grub screw to be closer to the housing. I assuming they updated the 2speed shoe for people that had shifting points problems. Anyway, its less weight on the 2speed gearbox with out those grub screws!!

Also would part number 909335 Rear Anti-Rollbar for the 950 work on the 705.
The adjustable rear anti-rollbar (#909335) blades are to stiff for the 705/Impulse. You will have to change out the male blades for the front (#909216) blades.

Thanks corwin for the update Ummm, I actually wondered why they took the grub screw out from the new shoe design when 705 came out... The older 2 speed gearbox shoe had grub screws in them. You can screw in the grub screw to make the other half of the shoe nearer to the 2 speed bell housing to make the shifting smoother (nearer) or harder (further). You can actually still use the shoes when it is worned out to a certain extent. Anybody knows what size these grub screws are?

Concerning the adjustable rear antirollbar blades, yes the male blades for the front is softer than the ones that come with the 909335. The bad part about these blades is that you need to predetermine the lenght where the grub screw will lock onto it. This is important that you need to determine that both left and right are equal in length and that they put equal pressure on both sides.

Once I get both lengths equal, I use a sharp object to mark on the shaft where the blades will be locked with the grub screws to equal length. The blades that come stock have grooves which you do not need to measure at what lenght you need to lock the blades.
