slop

when you guys installed the ball joints/links, did you install them so the larger hole in the link when over the ball firsr, or the smaller hole? my steering has a bit too much play in it for my taste. anyone else?

Julius 08-04-2004 10:45 AM

They go on large hole first.

packetdreamer 08-04-2004 11:13 AM

julius, do you get the "rattle" in your wheels too?

Do you mean when you move the wheels left and right that there is some slop? It is pretty small and normal.

I must agree with you there. My first 710 seems very good but this second car has more slop. I noticed that in my collection I have balls which are 5.8 mm in diameter while the ones from this second and newer kit is 5.75 mm.

The 5.8 mm ones must have either come from my 705 kit or the older 710 kit. I also have silver balls joints which are also 5.8mm ... don't know where they came from though.

Next rebuild ... slop will be gone!

i am having a problem with my car it seems to kick out the rear or oversteer mid corner when i go around the turn and stuff the triger i am not sure if it is my driving or the car it does it when making left or rights and the car fells balanced or not tweeked if anyone can give any advise it would be apprecated. traction is low and the track is small and tech. they use sugar water and the serface is smooth my setup is:

front
standered roll center
upper shocks in inner hole
front ball diff med
37sh 26mm
0 droop
45 deg sway
6mm hieght
1.5 camber

rear
upper roll center inner hole bottom lowwer pin holder
shocks in all the way in on top
rear diff loose
35sh 30mm
7 droop
rear stab inner arms collars at the end of the wire
6mm hieght
2.5 camber

Silver Balls:
SER-1647 Steel balls 5.8mm (4)
Comes with 710 kit for DRS arm ball joint.
Better fit but less efficien than the threaded one.

If still want to use the threaded ball joint, find the Kyosho(buggy) ball end or XR-303220 BALL JOINT 5.8 MM (4) bit more precise from stock 710.

Always make a double check on steering linkages from servo.

Quick tips:
"rear diff loose" this could be most problem when your track is sugar watered and track should be high grip when there is enough sunshine.
Try tighten more until yuo cannot turn 45T pulley while holding R + L axle.
If still kicking, add some more rear camber 3.5 is maximum you can use with LB setting. But I bet your car will understeer after this..:D
Next, add some FR camber, 2 deg is max.

Good Luck

check you rear sway bar if there is play on it that might cause it . i had the same problem just checked it and i saw a play where it was mounted, there was also a article on the outdrives having a dent that might cause it ... this was on previous post ... good luck:)

stankulas 08-04-2004 07:40 PM

thanks guys i will try the diff and i do know there is a notch in one of the out drives i will check the slop on the sway bar

i just notched that the front diff slides what i think a lot from side to side when i slide the diff to one side and turn the wheel i can allmost pull the drive saft out, track with is set at 200 any toughts on this

rcjayy 08-04-2004 08:04 PM

Can anyone help

Guy's I have a serpent 710 or course and im running it with a ns12S5 and I can't keep the car straight for two feet, this car is all over the place and totally undriveable. could the engine be to powerful for the car? or is there some type of an adjustment that can be made, please assist, I want to race it before the summers out but im afraid that I might kill a spectator.

Blip throttle when your car off ground. Watch the rear tire.
If it goes up and down... thats it!

Sir Julius have a great tip about preventing popping out dogbone when using front diff on his post.
About trackwidht, on normal condition 1mm narrower in front should be good and balance.
When traction rolling is an issue, narrow the rear end 1mm from the front. This is not always a good solution but I solve many traction roll issue with this adjustment.
