These are the specs for the S9550
SPECS: Speed: .14 Sec/60 Deg @ 4.8V or .11 sec/60 deg @ 6V
Torque: 67 oz/in @ 4.8V - 83 oz/in @ 6V
(4.8 kg/cm @ 4.8V - 6.0 kg/cm @ 6V)

Futaba S9451
SPECS: Speed: .13 Sec/60 Degrees @4.8V - .10 Sec/60 Degrees @ 6V
Torque: 97 oz/in @ 4.8V - 121 oz/in @ 6V
(7.0 kg/cm @ 4.8V - 8.7 kg/cm @ 6V)

It seems that the S9451 has 30% more torque. Do you think it will make a big difference if I were to use it for drag brake? I was just hoping that if I were to get the S9451 and use it for drag brake then it shouldnt put as much stress on the servo compared to the S9550? What do you guys think....

Yup. If you plug in the batts b4 the transmitter...the servos will twitch a little but then it won't function when the transmitter in on.
I always like how you could switch on your receiver first BEFORE switching on the Tx.

Crashed, if your servo acts like that it would be a problem when attending a big race with tight schedule.
Yup. I find it annoying too. I guess it's still the old Futaba 9451 for me.

Ahhh, so crashed_1 does not have a problem then. He's faster than me.

Guys,

I was also wondering if I should get KO Digis 2344 or 2343? I am leaning towards the 2344 servo with lotsa torque.. What do you guys think?
That's a matter of choice.
We've discussed this several times.
I like the high torque for my steering.
Others prefer the high speed.
Here's Josh Cyrul's opinion on torque versus speed.

I used to always choose the speed for the steering but after I tested a few different servos I then opted for the high torque as I liked the feel - less twitchy off center but it did seem to have more steering in the higher speed (higher load) corners.

In the past (15 years) when I raced Hydroplanes we used the rubber isolators that were supplied with the servos. When I changed to Electric 12th and 10th pan cars we mounted the servos solid with no isolators. Now 10 years later with gas cars what is the correct thing to do? I am using Futaba S9350 for steering & S9405 for the throttle. When I try to use the rubber mounts that came with the servos, the hardware supplied is not long enough and the holes in the steering mount are to large the support the brass inserts. I have a picture of Rene Cornella’s 710 I took at the Winternats and it looks like he does not use any servo isolation ( I think).

I tried to post a picture but the file size was two large.
Thanks to all who replied, I will take your advice and isolate both servos. I found that the hardware called out in the referance guide is longer (16mm) than the hardware supplied (12mm).

Cluth bell Gear Spacer?

I found on Mytsn site a Important Note about adding a small spacer (#802511) between the first and second pinion gears. Is this still required or is it optional? I have a black color 2nd gear and a brown / golden 1st gear. I can see where it helps line up the pinion gears with the two speed spur gears.

Didn't you get this note in your kit?

I believe with the newer bronze coloured pinions (1st gear especially), you do not need them anymore.

I just read the manual yesterday just gotta try it first then. With angled extension wheel.. it feels better balance for me. The style somewhat a bit complicated
I love the Helios....currently using 2343 for throttle & 2344 for steering. love the speed to control the throttle and torque for high speed turn.
and with the angled extension...you just save yer wrist from the long painful main.
i just wish i can use the fail safe, which is not allowed when using the super HRS. oh well, im using special crystal anyway...so far, at my place no one got it
