You could use a motor spray or a dedicated nitro cleaner to blast off the dirt from the bearings. Serpent has a bearing oil. Part number is 1682.

:( Hey Mark, yup. The bronze bushing thingy on the conrod is nasty when it disintegrates. It splatters all around in the engine and will sand blast the button head and piston top. How bad is the piston and liner? Sometimes they could still be used.

Take off the whole engine and give it a thorough wash with a nitro cleaner. If possible, take off the bearings too. Use a heating plate. Check and see if they are gritty as a result from that incident.

If they are, then you need to replace them as well. I don't know how much you can get the individual spare parts and how much they can add up too. Perhaps since NovaMega engines are difficult to find, you could try the Novarossi route or the JP FX engine. You can try HK online shops. They may be cheaper.

Sad to have to read through this early in the morning...:(

1)Who stocks parts online in the US?
2)Can you get CVD's?
3)What wears/breaks? (IE, what should I stock up on)

1) I think somebody else replied to this already. You could also venture into the online shops in HK. They MAY turn up cheaper for parts but I doubt it.

2) The only one available at the moment is from 3Racing. They actually have a bad rep on quality and durability but from what I hear, the CVDs are not too bad. But then again, replacing them when they bend can be costly. Serpent is suppose to come out with the CVDs. Don't know when. So for me, dogbones is still the way to go. More rugged and durable.

3) I suggest you take a look at the 710 FAQ. Look up markp27 as he is the caretaker of the FAQ. You can also download that FAQ off Serpent 710 product site int he downloads section.

That was what I was thinking too... The clutch / crankshaft must have take a hit. I knew something was wrong when both bearing broke. I had the same thing happen to me but turn out the crankshaft was bent !

When the engine internals are moving pretty fast, a slight tap to misalign it can cause a lot of things.

Mark, can you see if there are scratches as a result from the conrod on the engine backplate?

Yup. It is a nice engine indeed. I had a bad incident on my NovaMega 2104TMS 5 port engine too. The circular clips that holds the crankpin on top of the piston jumped out and made a deep scar on the piston and liner !

You can check if the clutch bell is warped. Spin in on the crankshaft with a new set of bearing in to see if it wobbles.

I'm surprise to hear that the crankshaft is straight after the incident.

Jose, pretty impressive stuff with ceramic bearings and all ! That's about what I got in my car as well except for the ventilated disc (mine is 9606). I do not have the wheel axles and dogbones as yours and of course, my bearings are just the stock rubber sealed Serpent ones.

Anyway, I would not use the shock seal shim. I believe that only helped when the rubber membrane was off different design. Since the running changes they made to it, I was told that the shim was no longer needed. Just thought I should mention it.
