Oh and Bert, that car u speak of is awesome but it's just too much especially when it's my first electric.

JOE SI 10-07-2013 08:22 PM

Rich, the mtx conversion is 200mm all other ep cars are 190mm.
Go for the t4 it will suit you, and it's new for 2014. IMO if you go with anything else, awesomatix or yokomo. The awesomatix is almost bulletproof as far as durability and so is the T4, the yoke isn't but it's really my favorite car just have to order parts no one local carries anything for it. If you find yourself at horsham, xray and awesomatix parts will pretty much be there so go with one of those.
Carpet racing is fun and really improves your driving, after a season of carpet my nitro driving spoke for itself, Rich you are my witness. See you at horsham

Thanks Joe, T4 it is!

If you're looking to be different check out the ARC R10 13 with the short shocks.
I ran most top of the line speedos and LRP FLOW WORKS TEAM and Orca are the best. It has a lot to do with the car so don't cheap out in that area.
Sorry guys for jacking the thread.
Anyone selling a mtx5 roller I'm in the market

It's hard to go wrong with most the major electric brands, current generations are having a war to do with who can get the most traction on control tyres typical at electric events, while retaining max steering.

I think where the Xray are excelling though is build quality that refines into it's ability to also be very tough, and handle mod power without chewing as many parts, or blowing apart diffs etc.

Very good points Joe and Bishop. I remember when I started onroad nitro with a Kyosho. The slightest touch threw off the settings. It was a constant fix-a-thon. For my first time running electric, durability should one of my top priorities, and I know xray has that. Thanks again guys!

So I have completely stripped down the car I bought and am rebuilding it. I took the advice of purchasing a one peice motor mount and am running into the issue of the one peice is wider than the standard mount and cannot get the motor to line up straight with the gears.

Am I missing something? Do I need to dremel out the mounting holes more?

K so...I figured it out the spur gears that came on the car were 58T for the 1st gear and 53T for the 2nd gear. According to the "middle" gears they are suppose to be 53T for 1st and 48T for second. So as it seems the spur gears that were put on this used car were much too large. LUCKILY I purchased extra of the middle gears from the manual. Problem is the 2 speed pieces now do not fit the gears properly. :( ....This is exactly why I don't buy used stuff lol...

So with that being said can anyone tell based upon the below picture what kind of 2 speed this is?

Totally amped to get this on the track when it's complete. ALMOST there lol

the two speed looks like 4r but take it apart and if it has a little ball bearing it is wrong mtx5 should have a roller bearing that goes right across in side have a look at pinion sizes they could be wrong to make it fit if you have the book you will se what I mean you will have to get hole new 2 speed //aluminium bits exc we have used wrong to speed shoes
they will work but not as well as the right ones that's the black bit

The pinion sizes are 15 / 20. I didn't pay attention to how the guy who had it before me made it work because I always completely rebuild the car to my liking when I get something used. With the combo he had I could get it to work if I made the engine angled but knew that was definitely not right. If this is a 4r 2 speed does that mean I will need to replace the inner 2 speed shoes?

NITTO550 10-10-2013 07:05 AM

The mugen mtx5 is sensitive to clutch build and gear alignment . I would get all the proper parts and start right, and once you have it right, you can experiment from there.

greg.dawn 10-10-2013 04:54 PM

15/20 is right and nitto is correct very carful sit up is needed or you will strip gears neally all 5 have some sort of brace we did from tray to beside diff used 1/8 stering arm but now we have ///trackside rc brace and have knot striped a gear for years of big events you shoud get complete set all the bits in the photo///if the bearing is a needel and not a ball to speed may be correct but the other bits are wrong to look at

Gearing up causing stripping

Quick question regarding an old topic.

So in search of more top end speed, I changed my gear ratios. I went from (Spur/Pinion) 53/15 on 1st gear, 48/20 2nd gear to 52/15 1st and 47/21 2nd. ANd now all of a sudden the thing is stripping 2nd gear. Burned 3 of them in an hour. I have the T2002 btw. What could I do to fix this. Rear rubber belt perhaps?

OnRDPassion 10-16-2013 08:17 PM

Is there an easy way to identify a t2001 vs the t2002?

Hey Jay that is not the right second gear housing...the one that come with the 5 has a big hole in the middle with no bearing, the bearing goes in the spur gear itself, the first gear housing is wrong too but it should work, the newer one looks less bulky then that one in the picture.
