the servo side on the mugen is the lightest side. The battery is on the left side with the engine hanging off towards the left side, and the pipe hangs out a fair way out on left side also, so you need to add weight to the right side to even it out. the MTX5 has optional titanium screws and pivot balls available to save weight, but for santioned racing i would need to add this wieght back onto the car somewhere. You can add weight under the tank and in front of the engine, but i have a suspicion that the weights under the tank will affect the chassis' flex. the weights go screwed on as two plates and would take away flex in a similar way as a brass tray would eliminate flex on an NT1 or the capricorn cars. |
Can someone post a photo of the MTX5 with normal size steering and throttle servos please?

servos
i hope you have plenty of patience if you are putting them together bailey tried for a long time and when they went together he did not know what he did i changed oil front diff i can't say it was much easier than 4r but that was me //plastic gears still good in front so i put it back together

i had to modify the servo tray to fit my low profile ko servo as the wire exited the servo against a plastic part. If you have patience and you are ok with dremeling go ahead and get the low profile servos. The car was designed with full size servos in mind so it's sort of a waste of time to use two low profile servos, unless you use a light weight battery on the other side to balance the loss of weight from one side with the other...i'm not gonna race in sanctioned events soon...so you know.. a few less grams for a club day *cough*:sneaky::lol: |
I had an easier time fitting two low profile Savox, than I did with two full sized servos, and had to mod nothing to fit the Savox LP's...
http://www.bishopsraceblog.com/?page_id=221 Actually, I did mod something, the Savox have a bulky wire grommet, I pulled away the outside section of the grommet so the wires could then fold flat against the servo cases, shimming of the servos also goes without saying, you shim to suit the servo and horn your using, and I needed to borrow some from an older kit as the 'five' kit did not come with enough. I'm all for the modern myself, LP servos are great, and would never go back to a NiMh battery either, LiFe packs are great, downside is I'm going to fail any weight check right now, so busy still sorting the car I honestly can't be bothered working out where to put weight till it's necessary, or when YBSlow churn out the brass engine mounts... |
My solution to the weight..... Brass weight for centre slider 43g by Podified Engineering. Engine Mounts coming soon.....:nod:

http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/a...x512212005.jpg http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/a...x512212007.jpg It would be great to have a choice of centre weights to play around with distribution and to have the option of making the car very light and placing the required weight in the centre. I'm dying to race my 5...no tracks within a cooee from where i'm ATM:flaming: |
optional

I missed these being added to the Mugen site...
http://www.mugenseiki.com/t2131_t2132e.htm Revised inserts for the front links, supposed to improve steering response, an issue some have had but other not, possibly a track/setup thing, but I'm keen to try a set... |
