I bought my NTC3 a couple weeks ago used for $100 off eBay. Its in decent shape especially considering how cheap I got it. I'm in the process of rebuilding it (a general tune-up) and I need some help on a few things. Which shock oil weight in good for the stock shocks (I need just a basic range of appropriate weights)? Also, what diff oil is good for it too?
Any other tune-up suggestions would be great.

Does it have the version 1 or version 2 rear end? Upgrade to version 2 if you have the older one and save yourself the headache.

I typically start with trinity 60 weight all around and adjust as needed. I would try to stick with one brand of shock oil as each brand's ratings are different.
Clean the car throughly, make sure all bearings are free, check for chassis tweak... I would just get used to the car first..
Then fuel and tires...
Oh. bodies do make a difference in handling. There's a reason why people run soapbox stratus and soap bar mazda6 in races.

just picked up a half built (and obviously unused) NTC3 team kit.
I've ordered a proline nemesis shell and have an lrp .12 on the way (donation from a friend who is upgrading to an OS TZ) along with an associated rear dual chamber pipe
anything else I need ? foam tyres I am guessing ?

I would start with the stock v rage tires if you have them. They are surprisingly good tires. When you get used to driving an on road car and you want more grip, then I would move on to foam tires.

To start off use rubber tires. In my opinion the stock ntc3 tires suck cause mine wore out in no time. There good for starting out cause there cheap and it doesnt matter if you screw them up. But use rubbers for parking lots and practicing then go with foams for racing.

There are other things you can do to your car that really doesn't cost a whole lot but makes a world of difference. Polish the pivot balls. Oil the bearings with trinity royal oil. Polish the kingpins. Change shock oils...

One-Way
Anyone running with a one-way? How is the durability? The CYA statements that Associated has used concerning the one-way and spool make it sound like the drivetrain will wear quick? Has this been the experiance?

I run the factory team one way and have not noticed any durability issues. Other than regularly maintaining it, meaning cleaning and oiling, I have no issues with it. I can see how the front spool could strain the drivetrain but the only thing I've experienced is that when running a spool it does shave down the tires fast.
