Hello everyone, first time I drove a nt1 sport model at the Montonica race in L.A. All I put on it was graphite shock towers, top plate and front universal and all I can say is what a dream to drive. I would like to thank Mike Swauger for all his help at the race building the diffs and the shock and pitting with my new team mate SOLOARTIST 702, funny guy. I had a GREAT weekend of racing. Built the nt1 car at the track on Friday, missed all day practice on Friday and put 1 tank in on Saturday for qualifying and walla, the car was fast for my driving even. If any of you racers want to get someone new into racing, have them purchase the sport kit, it is bad a$$ cheap price for what you get. I am putting all the fiber glass back on the car this week to let some locals drive it to show them what a nice piece for the price. Matter of fact I bet when I put the glass top deck back on the car, I will get even more steering if you like steering. If you want you can upgrade after your purchase the car, graphite parts 3 pieces, lower front arms and newer smaller clutch, but I don’t think there is a need for weekend racers, matter of fact, the car raced with some heavy hitters and it did well. I was really pleased with the car. I did not have the new clutch on the car; I used what came in the kit. Very happy with the car.

Thanks to everyone that helped and had a great weekend or day of racing except for the rain on Sunday. 7 ½ hour drive home..

Default Life battery

Does anybody have a life battery that they recommend?
I've tried a couple of different brands and can't find one that's not bad after a couple months use.

IP 1450

Pro Tek 1450

Charge the battery around 90pct before keeping it for long period storage.

So far these brands could last 1 year or more, ( except 1 battery was dead because I forget to unplug the receiver ).

Btw, you have to flatten the bottom surface of xray battery holder with dremel, otherwise the battery cannot lay flat properly.

I have been running the IP 1250 mA pack for the last 18 mths or so with no probs, have also ran 45min Nats Amain with plenty to spare. Best of all fits right in with no mods.

Has anyone tried the 2012 radio plate? I modified the old one to be similar and the results were not good. My times were slower and the car more difficult to drive.

Any suggestions? To make modification work?

Any feedback on the new Xray 2012 plate? It looks the same minus the two extensions/cutouts in the front, over the axle, but is it?

Thanks,
Sam

More then welcome to help you, but you have to give us some more information on the car.
First your setup from the car, then the track you race on, long straights and/or thight corners or flowing turns. There is a point where going softer on setup will only make a difficult car, so tell us your setup.

Default 2nd Gear Issue

With the hard spring and red shoe, if the end play on the clutch has to much play in it would this cause 2nd gear to strip out because of how hard the clutch is hitting when it hits 2nd? I think this is my issue but wanted to bounce the idea off of some seasoned NT1 drivers. I checked mesh (its fine), motor mounts and motor are nice and tight and not moving and the 2 speed shaft is not warped, cracked or damaged. 1st gear has no problem and no sign of aggressive wear, i just strip 2nd and it happen 3 times Sunday

Gearing is 17/60 on 1st and 21/55 on 2nd

You need a 22 2nd pinion. I was running 17/22 60/55. Your gear split should be the same pinion to spur. Could have been the big problem.

Thanks Austin, my only question would be why did it start this now if it is the split? I have been running that gear setup for months with no problems.

I'm not sure. I noticed though on top of your small tires you were running and the high ratio split for 2nd, that your car look like it was shifting for 1st into 1st and not a lot of pull in 2nd. Try the gear change and enjoy some more top end as well. See if it makes a difference

Perhaps I should rephrase my main question -- has anyone had a close look at the new radio plate? Is it just like the old one with the two cross supports over the steering pivot cutaway?

Yes,

I have done this modification on the radioplate since beginning of 2011. What i like is a lot off turn in when racing. This agressive steering is now with the mod. more forgiving. The car doesn`t lose the rear as much and still has aggresive turn in. (I race national)
I like the mod and you can do it easily yourself. I didn`t notice that it give`s more steering though as some say, but this is maybe the driving style
