I'm using a xray one that I had used an endmill to take a little more off the flywheel, and I cross drilled the threaded areas of the clutchbell...If you don't have the correct equipment to do this, don't try it!

does a mill, a lathe and a bitchin race shop count? lol It would be cool to see how far you took it. You tried boring the two speed shaft? That was my next step to lose some weight on the cheap, without sacraficing reliability.. also have to make a balancing fixture for the clutch bell etc after i machine it..Pm with pictures maybe

at the moment I am designing a spring rate tester for TC springs...Tired of using a hudy 2.5mm allen wrech for side by side spring comparisons.. stay tuned for some interesting info.

problem with the 2speed shaft is that it is hardened steel and unlike you guys i dont have my own machine shops or mill or lathe so i asked a guy i know with a machine shop and he told me to properly hollow the shaft would be quite difficult and costly bc its made of hardened steel:eek:

meronr, I tell you what brother. I am going to wig out if I don't have some weight comparisons on my desk in like two seconds lol. I am all amped up on monster java. I NEED RESULTS!!! roflmao:ha:

Everyone- if you have the no bs weight of a component on the car that there is an alternate part for made by someone. Post the part, and who the new part is made by with the weight in grams and you will get a cookie... must come to sonoma ca for cookie...

rx7ttlm 01-18-2008 02:36 PM

well in a couple weeks if you send me yours with postage paid I will bore yours too just for fun.. all it takes is sharp carbide tooling lol thats easy to come by...

oh brother where is the patience. if you look at rcfoolz earlier post he actually posted some weight savings from lightweight parts. i already told you that buying the ltwght 1st and 2nd gear housing were not worth it just do them yourself and save the 30 or 40 $ dollars for the two of them your only saving about 4 to 6 grams with the upgrade dremel bit is only about 8 bucks

rx7ttlm 01-18-2008 02:46 PM

I compared that to my parts that i had weights on already for stock parts and some seemed shaky.. I have a calibrated scale .. ship me all your parts lol

meronr 01-18-2008 02:49 PM

as for the 2speed shaft cant give you a weight savings yet bc i dont have it yet i will next week. In the mean time i know you said no to aluminum but the Ybslow mid shaft only weighs 3.1 grams and is only 13 or 14 dollars, stock weighs 12.4 grams

rx7ttlm 01-18-2008 02:49 PM

my reasoning behind buying the clutch bell etc, is because balancing parts that spin at 40k is an important thing when its connected to the engine... two speed shaft and gear holders not so much. But I bill out at about 150-200 bucks an hour depending on the job. So my time in the machine shop is precious.. if this season in 1:1 racing goes well. I will have a fleet of NT1's and you can be my mechanic and build all my shocks (bloody hate building lil car shocks, I can build a set of real car shocks in the time it takes me to get these lil buggers dialed)

just send me the scale it be easier :ha:

rx7ttlm 01-18-2008 02:56 PM

well I like your scale. because it agrees with mine.... lol

rx7ttlm 01-18-2008 03:00 PM

it would be faster if you sent me everything.. then I could email you secret infon on your setup lol... I was tired of not being able to make my car aggressive enough.. so I started engineering the suspension and springs, shocks etc like I would a real car.. lemmie tell ya.. its a lot harder to do caster sweep on a lil car lol

rx7ttlm 01-18-2008 03:07 PM

I do need a higher capacity gram scale.. mine maxes at 500... Only good enough to test the first mm of the spring compression on a hand full of springs.. I need to find a scale that has really good resolution in the 0-6 kg range :(. I asked one of the guys I get 1:1 scales from and he looked at me like I was crazy lol
