Just bought a sc8 new what upgrades are a must this will be a basher oval power house I don't care about the bling just what a solid SC
|
Jay, you might want to change the front skid plate to a more durable piece, mine seemed to break a little too easy for my taste. I also bought a long Hobbico "Hot Shot 2" glow starter so I could start my truck with a starter box and just push down directly on the engine. One other thing to consider would be a Wrap from Fastlane Graphics, it will go a long way toward keeping the body together, the lexan used on the stock body is kinda thin.

If we're talking the SC8 Nitro....Upgrading the shocks to 16mm FT Big Bore Shocks is the most important....then if you're running the stock AE Pro .28 engine, get the FT 2035 pipe, FT Hard Aluminum Clutch Shoes, and a 17T Clutchbell for better acceleration and top end speed.....I use a T-Bone front bumper because the stock one breaks too easy...and the rest of what Slider said and you're good to go.....I've changed my set-up as well--35Wt Shock Oil, 7-7-7 Diffs and silver sway bars....I love My SC8!!!!

Most likely a really stupid question but I'm NEW...
I'm trying to install the 16mm big bore shocks on my SC8 but the stock RTR standoff's don't seem to be working out for me? What am I missing? I'm obsessing over this at the moment. The shocks just bind up because they're hung up on the shock tower (I've only installed the right rear so far). Anyhow, I'm going to pull all (the rest) of my hair out tonight because I was stoked to get these things on. I'm running 35wt all around as well as the silver spring from the FT spring kit. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance. |
Have you got the blue bushings in there? I've got Big Bores on my SC8, but don't remember having to change anything... ?? Maybe you need RC8B standoffs too.. ? Not sure..
I know I had an original RC8 a few years back, and put Hong Nor Big Bores on, and then I definitely needed longer standoffs. Maybe try a shim of some kind to get the stand-off to stick out a bit more?.. I think they should fit no problems.., but it's been a long time since I mounted mine... |
Are there supposed to be blue bushing on both sides of the shock caps? I only have them on the outer side in stock configuration. I had to put the single blue bushing facing to the INSIDE of the shock cap for the big bore, just so it would clear the shock tower. I really appreciate the quick reply.
Please continue to help!!! I'm running out of hair! |
Bushings go on the inside - between the shocktower and the shock cap..
|
Ok, that's how I have them now (even though stock they were facing outwards). But now the nut seats WAY inside the shock cap... Doesn't seem right, especially without some sort of bushing or washer or spacer between the shock cap and the nut.
|
Turn the shock around.
|
The bushing actually has to be inserted from the FRONT of the shock cap so that they not only butt up against the standoff but also keep the shock from just sliding off the nut. My dilemma started because of a mildly gnarled bushing but more importantly... just how little room there is to tighten the nut that holds the bushing on.
Thanks for all your info and thanks for getting it to me so darn fast! ...but in the end, trial and error was my biggest ally. |
Don't feel bad PMAZ7, I did the same thing when I installed my BB shocks on my SC8.....They do go on slightly different then the old 14mm shocks.....but they do fit great.....I had to DL the RC8B manual to figure out what I was doing wrong.....LOL
|
Just started breaking in a sc8 changed motor, pipe and servos out wow this rig is a blast to drive. Need to change the oils thou look for a deal on the big bore shocks new
|
I'm looking at a buddy's now and it looks like I need an additional washer for each nut and now I'm considering inverting the nut and bolt that hold the shock standoff's so that I can tighten the thing right. I DO have the bushing on the wrong side but need a washer to retain the bushing and shock.
Maybe I should download the RC8b manual if it shows a good detail of the setup. |
Ok....figured it out. This kit requires:
Replacement flanged nuts A nut driver kit with extremely THIN walls And of course, everyone on here was correct. The bushings mount between shock caps and shock towers. You haven't heard the last from this idiot! I will be back with even stranger questions, comments, opinions and concerns! Thanks everyone. |
