Painter has been ill, so still waiting for bodyshell to be done - said it would be 3 weeks, and he's going to be 3 or 4 more days due to illness. Hoping I can borrow a bodyshell off a mate as keen to try this truck out.
Whilst waiting my order arrived from DE Racing, but the 2 sets of rear skid plates turned out to be one set and a bumpskid - great customer service from them as they sent me out another set of rear skids  Anyway, thought the bumpskid would be no use to me, but after a little testing session out in road, and a *cough* slide into a kerb *cough* I noticed the front skid was broke, so fitted the bumpskid, and dremelled the skid to suit the DE bumpskid, and bolted up with some countersunk screws. Think this will be shed loads better then the standard arrangement, and look forward to testing the theory  |
Plod,

Paint template
1 Attachment(s)
Here, I have been working on this for awhile an I am not sure where to post it so I thought this topic was as good as any. It is a paint template that you can use for any short course body (sc10 or sc8). Feel free to use it. Let me know what you think of it. See Attached file.

Anybody played around with anti roll bars ?
Raced mine for the first time yesterday, but as I was the only SC at the track, they put me in with the truggies. On the straights I could hang with them no problem, and on some of the sharp turns, I was actually turning underneath some of them, but on the long sweepers, the car was quite unsettled. Just thinking of ordering some thicker anti roll bars and experimenting with them to get extra speed in the sweeping bends. |
sway bars
I got both the silver and the gold sway bars and mix and match them depending on tires and terrain.
I thought they made a good difference I found with my factory black sway bars I was over-compensating with heavy spring rates to try and keep the truck planted better Hope this helps. --Glenn |
I see AE also do a 3.0mm sway bar - would that be too much in your opinion?
Wasn't sure myself with the high CoG. At the moment, for the winter ( until april ) we are running on the fuzzy felt ( astro ) so would be good if I can get this set up for the forthcoming months. A fellow racer suggested higher shock oils, but I wasn't convinced, and think the anti roll bars are the way to go. On another point, has anyone found any other shock towers other than the standards which give more adjustment? |
Plod,
Exedy makes some aftermarket shock towers specific to the SC8. I havent tried them myself, but they looked to have a good deal more shock position options, which i liked. Wow, the biggest sway bar i have seen for the SC8/ RC8 is the 2.8mm. Depending on tires that i run, I will sometimes have traction rolling issues... to combat this, i run my ride height just below the half-shafts being level and 55 weight oil. The larger diameter sways did make my truck feel much more responsive to steering inputs. Also helped keep the rear planted better on hard acceleration. But to be honest I have never run on astro, so i cant comment definitively on what setup requirements might be needed for that surface.. Due to the fact that asto is an very high traction surface, you may want to at least give the larger sways a try. What tires were you thinking of running on that surface? Just curious... Hope this helps, --Glenn |
