Exedy makes some aftermarket shock towers specific to the SC8.
I havent tried them myself, but they looked to have a good deal more shock position options, which i liked.
Wow, the biggest sway bar i have seen for the SC8/ RC8 is the 2.8mm.
Depending on tires that i run, I will sometimes have traction rolling issues... to combat this, i run my ride height just below the half-shafts being level and 55 weight oil. The larger diameter sways did make my truck feel much more responsive to steering inputs. Also helped keep the rear planted better on hard acceleration.
But to be honest I have never run on astro, so i cant comment definitively on what setup requirements might be needed for that surface..
Due to the fact that asto is an very high traction surface, you may want to at least give the larger sways a try.
What tires were you thinking of running on that surface? Just curious...
Hope this helps,

Do you have a link to those aftermarket shock towers? I was thinking of getting the extreme carbon fiber ones but interested in seeing the Exedy ones.

plod 11-17-2009 11:21 AM

Yes, would be good if you had a link to them mate, as google'd it earlier and loads of 1:1 performance stuff kept coming up.

I've ordered the 2.5, the 2.8, and the 3.0mm sway bars this afternoon.
If they come before the weekend, i'm going to try and get up the track and do some testing.

Ok ive been meaning to put this up for awhile finished building my SC8 with all the carbon and a few other bits dropped it on the scales as well cant remember what it weighted before the diet but im sure some one out there should be able to do it, Also i purchased a TTr .28 Pro and had it modified to the Max so it should be a screamer, I've run the engine in on the bench and now just waiting to get her on the track I also have big Bores but haven put them on yet.

Blade, what shock towers are those, and how do they stand up??

forty6and2 12-13-2009 09:31 AM

another question for ya .. is there an advantage to running your steering servo sidways? do you notice anything?

Extreme racing are the carbon shock towers i have on here and they seam very sturdy 4mm thick i haven't had them on the track as yet. Still to find out about the shock laying down, The carbon radio plate i got needed the RC8B servo stands to work which is one reason i layed the servo down.

Must say the only thing i was disappointed in is the M2C Racing rear captured hinge pin set up they expect you to drill two holes in your chassis to make the droop support hold in place so i just mounted it the old way and time will tell if it works, The other thing with the hinge pin set up is you have to remove one of the rear bumper supports as well but there are the two top ones and the bumper attachment still seams strong enough to take a few knocks. The bits i cut off are the brackets that go to the standard toe blocks on the bottom.

Keep us updated on those towers. I had some of their stuff on my Muggy, but although I had no trouble with breakages, when the stuff arrived their was screw holes that hadn't been drilled out properly, and others not drilles at all !
I swore i'd never use them again, but if it's the only choice, well.........

As for laying the servo down, isn't it just a lower CoG thing

Any one got any new tips of stories to post? Dont want this thread to fall too far back. Hoping to take mine out on Saturday for some fun. I also just bought a new body and am going to do a kellogs Tony the Tiger theme . It looks good in my head, hope it comes out that way on the truck.

Eagle7 02-05-2010 02:14 PM

I think I'll be selling mine do to the lack of racing for them. We raced them last season but we don't have enough for this season. :flaming:

plod 02-06-2010 03:17 AM

Well i'm still the only one racing one at our track, but i'm having fun, and that's something I didn't always have running truggies as was getting a little bit too serious at times

Thought about getting rid and going back to truggies, but like I said, i'm having fun, and surely that's why we do this hobby isn't it.

Back on track, i'm hoping to gain an advantage if they put me in with truggies again, and that's the fact I've fitted a BCE RC8T chassis. Ok, i'm not going to beat many of the truggies in an out and out race, but if I can beat a few more, then the satisfaction that will give me is more than worth it :nod:

Madbrad 02-06-2010 09:05 AM

I race buggy and truggy to and bring the SC8 just incase there is a class. I have a lot more fun driving the SC8 but im a little fast with the other two.

If your wanting the class to grow where your at just keep bringing it out, once people see them on the track people will see how much fun they look. Thats how it happened for me and for the last few club races we had about 4-5 SC8 out there, not sure what it will be like this year, im hoping at least that many.

Madbrad 02-06-2010 03:44 PM

Had lots of fun with the truck today, i love those knuck tires. They worked so nuch better than the stock tires. I had an issue with the fuel tank and found i have a bad o-ring. Any one know where i can get that ? Couldnt find it on Amain or Tower. If you know please post a link.

Eagle7 02-06-2010 03:52 PM

Call Associated and they will send you a new tank. Mine started leaking and quirting fuel and they said it was a bad batch of tanks and sent me a new one. :batman:
