I got a great deal on a MR-03 from a buddy so I now have a Stock class entry. 98mm with a Kyosho V-Speed motor. Ran some laps tonight and the body may not prove to be ideal, it catches on the inside corners. May switch to a McLaren MP-12C. Should have an entry for Stock and Open class tonight or tomorrow.

Nice looking car and I really like the brushed XSpeed motor that I run in my Ferrari 458. But it is a 50 turn, so that would put it in the Pro Stock class! You could put a stock white endbell motor in that car and also run it in the Stock class. Dual use...

Ok good to know. I'm fine with Pro Stock class but may pick up a stock motor in the future. It's also got a ceramic ball diff not sure if that matters.
Ball diff is fine in Stock and Pro Stock. Just not Box Stock. |
April entries
I have three entries this month, two in Open class. If that's not allowed then I'll use my F-1 run. The Kyosho car needs a lot of work yet but I can see the potential. One thing for sure it really makes me appreciate the smoothness of the GL cars that much more. I almost didn't run the MR-03, when I was changing out the toe bar the right knuckle fell apart! Luckily I was able to glue it back together and it held the whole race. May look into some 1 deg aluminum knuckles.

Getting it to reverse is such a pain. You can see it from the mistakes they are more costly compared to my Sanwa. The limited radio tuning options are also a challenge. But I managed to get it around without traction rolling once. Going to try more toe-in and maybe softer springs in the front. The stock T-plate is also very soft so may swap it out for a carbon. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...68245b54d8.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...3cd471569.jpeg ------------------------------------------------------- Class - Open Date - April 29, 2020 Location - Madison, WI Basement Race Time - 371.55 Fastest Lap - 4.28 Chassis - GLR Body - GT lexan Wheelbase - 102mm Tires - Front: Marka V5 25 Rear: PN Super Soft yellow bag Motor - Atomic 3500kv sensored Batteries - GL 330mah LiPo Front Springs - Green Rear Springs - Kyosho Green Motor Mount - Stock Aluminum Dampener Fluid - 100k silicon grease sides, 300k center Gearing - 11t Pinion It's easy to tell the GLR is much more dialed in and the radio is much more responsive. There's not much I want to change on this car right now, I need to just practice with it more. I was going to convert it back to 98mm but now that I have the MR-03 I don't see the need. I will probably run it as-is until the regular race track opens up again. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...b50de3bfa.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...9ff2df0da.jpeg ------------------------------------------------------- Class - Open F1 Date - April 29, 2020 Location - Madison, WI Basement Race Time - 358.01 Fastest Lap - 4.13 Chassis - GLF-1 Brass Body - Stock lexan Wheelbase - 114mm Tires - Front: Marka 21 Rear: Marka V9 10 Motor - GL 3500kv sensored Batteries - GL 330mah LiPo Front Springs - Yellow Rear Side Springs - Yellow Rear Center Spring - Blue Motor Mount - Stock Aluminum Dampener Fluid - 3mil silicon oil center shock Gearing - 10t Pinion, 52t PN limited slip spur Notes - Roller wing, lexan rear wing This car is also running really well. Glad I finally figured out the Rx issues (Not enough shock protection) so I can run the Sensored GL ESC. So very smooth. It needs some aluminum 0 deg knuckles, the 1 deg don't seem to have much effect, the tire just wears down into a cone shape. The roller wing is essential on a narrow track like this with 114mm wheelbase. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...0c223798ab.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...c70bbb06a.jpeg |

Nice going Tom. The MR03 is worth spending time on, while they may never be as sexy as the GLR that can be made to run just as smooth and be just as much fun to drive, my Pro-Stock MR03 (102mm) is maybe a hair off my GLR on the Mini 96 but it really just depends on the day. The MR03 also has the added bonus of being able to go from a 86mm wheelbase all the way to 102mm which makes it really versatile and super fun.....I am having so much fun running my 90mm Narrow car. As for the knuckles I have tried 1* knuckles but went back to 0* on all my cars. At 0* my tires are wearing very evenly on the Mini96. Cheers, Jim |

I have tried to decipher the the radio options for the MR-03, but best I can tell there are none. Is this true? |
This is the main table for compatibility between radios. Radio Compatibility Information ? MINI-Z Info The only real option is the Syncro Touch KT-432PT but that's pretty expensive and doesn't really work with anything else. I don't think they even sell 1/10 receivers for it.
The MR-03 are good to get into the hobby but serious racers should go straight to the EVO version. I got mine cheap but otherwise I would have stuck with GL cars. |
the radio crap is the main reason i setup my mro3 the way i did. Did i over spend on electronics to get it to where it is now heck yeah but i learned a lot about the electronics that are out in the market right now.
if you are going to go and make an mr03 capable of using a sanwa go sensored off the rip and dont look back. If u want to keep it brushed then u can get the red esc from amazon witch is 12 bucks with prime next day and u will be good. One thing i found out with that esc is that for u to have full throttle you need to max out the radio all the way. Other then the servo board and rx thats the main things i figured out in my jorney. A lot of stuff in this scale is like secret if u dont know somebody who has done it u wont understand the language depending on where you are in the world. Anybody has any questions you can always just ask me i will share anything i know, here or on fb but fb is faster. |
