I am considering improvising a practice track. Can anyone tell me if there is much of a difference between the tiles sold at places like Wal Mart, Harbor Freight, etc.? Any suggestions or cautions?

I don't think the traction is anything like RCP, but I've seen several guys on FB doing that recently. The coolest home made track I saw on FB today was done on carpet that can be rolled up when not in use. Guessing traction would be a lot better than those tiles you are considering.

Thanks for the response, Traveler. That could save me some $. Buying and shipping a Mini 96 to my house if going to be around $325. Was hoping to do it a little cheaper.

He'd done a really nice job painting the infield and making detachable rails, but I went looking for it just now and couldn't find it. He even included the materials from Home Depot and the cost. My Mini96 shipped to Winston-Salem was $230 from Kyosho America.

Just an update, I posted the rules for the new 86/90mm Narrow class on the home page at the beginning of this thread. Let me know if you have any questions.

I ran my 90mm Narrow car a bit yesterday, I have a LONG way to go to get up to Traveler's time but once you get a hang of it the cars are fun to drive and look great on the track. I am excited to get some time in and get the car up to speed.....I have to say I am very impressed with how Traveler has his car going, he has turned a 4.4Xs fast lap so these cars are not slow. Seeing these times is getting me motivated to work on my 240Z and DS3 bodies.

I’m not a big fan of the DS3, but would love to try the Fiat 500 body in this class. They are near impossible to find or are astronomically priced. No idea why. Can’t be a popular racing body!

Sorry for the noob question, but I am a little confused by this rule in Box Stock "Any Kyosho plastic motor mount that does not incorporate a disc dampener can be used for 86-98MM Wheelbases." Can we run the LM motor mount with disc dampener on the Box Stock car with a 102mm wheelbase?

I broke my MM car's differential with a few too many excursions into the wall:( The good news is it has served as an excellent trainer and allowed me to get some major improvements in my race time!

After jacking up the differential in the Mclaren I was robbing one out of my shelf queen Audi LMS and decided could the foam track really hurt the body? So instead of swapping parts I just ran the Audi and after some adjustments to car and driving style I have been really happy with the results. Main thing is I noticed the Audi does not seam to slam to a stop if I just brush a wall on a straight section. This resulted in not much more of a faster lap, but a much more consistent run. I am thinking the little downforce generators that are on the front of the Mclaren do not play nice with the foams walls on the track.

Nice run! I think what is allowed in box stock for motor mounts are the RM, MM and HM. LM and MM2 are not because they come with "incorporate" a disk dampener. Can you post a picture of the broken diff? I've never broken one and wonder if it can be fixed. If you can't here, post it in the FB group. By the way, your handle cracks me up every time!

Traveler2 Thanks! Not like I have much else to do, but practice right now. The LM being excluded makes sense as it does drive significantly better...may just need to drive it and post the times as "Stock" class if I get any decent ones. The diff is not visibly broken, but after only a few laps it will lock. If you slightly force the wheels in opposite directions it will unlock, but not spin as free as it did when new. I took it apart and you can see some mushrooming or excessive wear on the outer edges of the planetary gears and the ring gears. It also seems to have more axial play then the one in my LM car. Any trouble shooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Not used to working on things this small!

My handle was given to me by a friend decades ago. He always gave me crap for being so cheap except when it came to cars and racing:) I figure I am actually from a Jewish family so if the shoe fits!

I ran my stock motor LM car in Stock class in February to see how it compared to my GT 70T car. You can see the results in post 673 HERE.

What body is that on the 102mm GLR? What rear and side springs do you have installed? Are you using the longer spring set for the longer shock shaft? I would think that the green or red spring with preload adjusted to keep the pod flat with the chassis could aid in finding traction for the 102mm wheelbase. The car doesnt look too far down on traction in the video, but its hard to tell.

Traveler is correct on the LM pod. Basically the rule was written so that you cannot use a OEM plastic pod that has a dampener on it in the Box Stock Class.

On the diff I had one fail in the same manner as well but it was after a year of a lot of use.

After work yesterday I got about 10 minutes with my 90mm narrow car. Seeing that Traveler went to a PN6 T-Plate I figured I would give it a go and went to the stiffest plate I have to see what would happen. I did feel like I got a bit more steering but I also did not feel as consistent and the clock showed I was not as fast. I may not have done enough laps to get into the groove so need to revisit that tonight, I will also try a softer T-Plate and see where that gets me.

Another question, I have not taped the tires on this car yet as I wanted to get my tire selection sorted before taping. Will taping the fronts give me a bit more steering?
