May Results
Hello All,
Thanks for joining us for and running another month of the Mini96 WC. While we did not have the participation we had in April we still did OK with 10 participants submitting 22 times fast times in 7 classes. Our friends from Italy once again have proven that they can put down some incredibly fast and consistent hot laps, my hat is off to you guys. I hope you guys are enjoyed this circuit, I personally found it to me one of the more fun circuits we have had and I am looking forward to seeing how it goes running it counter clockwise. Here are the May Results: Box Stock- 5th- Fastjew- 386.5/4.46 4th- Revto13G 369.4/4.32 3rd- LJH- 354.8/4.25 2nd- Traveler2- 319.9/3.83 1st- MSAN- 310.8/3.88 Stock 90N 2nd- LJH- 374.8/4.29 1st- Traveler2- 326.6/3.90 Stock 6th- Tomthegeek- 385.8/4.50 5th- LJH- 316/3.87 4th- Claudiooo- 290.0/3.57 3rd- Traveler2- 288.4/3.53 2nd- Medo998- 284.6/3.57 1st- MSAN- 277.2/3.57 Pro-Stock 4th- LJH- 319.6/3.87 3rd- Claudiooo- 295.9/3.57 2nd- Traveler2- 287.0/3.48 1st- MSAN- 275.4/3.5 Open 2WD 3rd- Tomthegeek- 358.6/4.09 2nd- Scionara- 330.11/3.83 1st- MSAN- 278.4/3.44 FTM- MSAN 275.4/3.44 in his Pro Stock Car. Now that we have seen the results I am going to try something new. Every month I am going to pick someone and ask them to give input on both their car set-up as well as technique that yielded big gains on that months circuit.. For the first month I am going to pick our Stock Class winner MSAN and his crazy fast Stock Car. One comment I need to make, make sure you are classifying your car correctly, there was one time submitted in Box Stock that I could not accept because it was a EVO car which does not fit into the Box Stock Class. As always if you have any questions let me know and I will get you going. Cheers, Jim |
Just wanted to post a note to express my appreciation for this thread and the time you spend organizing the mini-96 wc - I'm not ready to enter the competition with my 7s lap times, but its great to be able to see what I'm shooting for and, if not for this thread, I'd probably still be using the default layout for my Mini-96 track! Sweet having something new to try every month. You guys do some amazing lap times with these things! RJ

Thanks for the good words. You should seriously think about posting your times, it may get other people who are just starting out to post their times and it is a great way to see your progress as you get faster. It amazes me, looking back, how much faster I have gotten over the last year. Cheers, Jim |

I would also encourage you to enter your times. I only started 2 months ago and also ran 7s laps. I usually start off the month around 7s and get better throughout the month. My improvements starts with consistency and how quick I can recover. Definitely join, you don’t have to post your results till the end of the month. If you keep track of your times throughout the month you’ll be surprised on how much you improve. It’s pretty gratifying. |
I'll give it a shot! Picked up a lap counter, so now I'm ready for some legit times. I was using Laptrax on an old Android - it was pretty cool, but I really had to set the sensitivity high and it was pretty touchy with my frequent rail bumps near the timing bridge (Lots of 2s laps)! The mini-96 track has been great practice for the for the big track the local club sets up! RJ

I'm in Arizona - There's a local club called, Mini-AZ. Pretty small scene here, but they say the dealer I found is the first with Mini-Z in 15 years.... Guess he's sold a bundle of cars, so maybe there'll be some pickup in Phoenix... I got pretty excited about the GL F1, so I got one of those and GL R, but I'm putting together an NI-MH Mini-z for their stock class... I've learned the super-cool looking ASC bodies aren't so good for racing on the RCP tracks!

Thanks for updating your location. We have people from all around the world participating in the M96WC, so it's nice to know who is where. What problem are you having with ASC bodies on RCP?

I have a Kyosho R8 and one of the Vette bodies - the little bits on the front seem to really stick when you touch those side rails! All good - makes for good driving habits I think. I picked up a Merc/Sauber white body that seems to have a pretty clean front-end and I'm planning to use it for the local stock class.

Hello All....I hope all of you guys are staying safe and healthy. Not a lot of activity going on but that is to be expected with the nicer weather but if you are running post your times.
I have been totally MIA for a number of reasons, most of them good. Work has gone from dead to full-on craziness. My wife and I have started to move ahead with getting me a fully accessible bathroom/office (more on this in a bit). The Wee Man was able to get back on the water sailing and baseball will start next week for him. The only bad thing was my Dad passing from Covid related issues. It is hard losing a parent but he made it to 89 and lived a great life until 85, the last few years were not great for him so this is better........but damn he has left my brother and I a mess of a house to clean up. On the house project, as many of you know I was involved in a skiing accident in Feb of '18 that left me paralyzed from the bellybutton down. The house my wife and I are in is a great little 1800sq foot cape on a super quiet road. It is perfect for us but the physical layout does not allow a bathroom large enough to be fully accessible for me so we have been contemplating building out over the garage. We had started this project a year ago and then put it on hold for various reasons. We had used the same contractor that we had do our kitchen and opening up the doorways after I hurt myself but, for a number of reasons questioned if he was up to the task of this build. Enter contractor #2 a few weeks back. From the first minute in our conversation I liked this guy, he is local, has kids in the same school as our some and just seemed smart. He did a preliminary estimate which was within 3% of our original estimate so we started talking and the subject of the foundation came up. I am not a builder but I am mechanically inclined and I had asked the first contractor about the foundation and he said "it will be fine" and I did not think anything of it until contractor #2 asked me if any research had been done about the foundation. Long story longer last week he did some digging and was not impressed with what he found. In the meantime, my wife has had her eye on the real estate market this entire time but finding a house that does not need major work to make it accessible every day does not pop up every day...Fast forward to Saturday when my wife shows me this house a mile away from where we live, in the pictures it looks like it would work. Her best friend is a real estate agent so they went and looked at the house on Sunday and she comes home and tells me I am looking at it on Monday. Monday morning we had a meeting with our contractor where we discussed options on the foundation and it was quickly becoming evident that this project was going to take on a different scope. After that meeting, we went and looked at the house and it will work with minimal alterations....it is too big and has way more property then we need but it is a really nice house....We have made an offer that was accepted so crossing my fingers that nothing funky happens. Now all of you are wondering how the heck this has anything to do at all with Mini-Z's and the M96WC. Well, the basement alone is 1800sq feet with huge spans between the lolly columns.....This means I can have the track set up on a permanent basis and I will have enough room to easily move around it to pick up cars, vacuum, make layout changes, and try different vantage points. It also would allow me to go outside the 8X12 square size.....obviously we would need to make sure everyone else is able to change up the size but it would be nice if we could use all the times on some of the circuits that use a big sweeper. The bad news is that the tentative close date is Sept 1st and I doubt with all that has to happen that I will have time to run before then. Cheers, Jim |
Congrats Jim! That's great news on the new house! Hope it all works out for the best!

June 2020 Box Stock Results
Class-Box Stock
Date-6/27/20 Location-Winston-Salem, NC Race Time-5:15.232 (315.232) Fastest Lap-3.752 Chassis-MR-03 ASF Body-911 GT1 Wheelbase-90mm Tires-K30LH fronts, K20R rears Motor-Stock Batteries-ATM 800s Front Springs-ATM Deep Blue (Soft) T-Plate-Kyosho Carbon Soft Motor Mount-Stock RM Dampener (If applicable)-None Dampener Fluid (If applicable)-None Gearing-Stock Gear Diff/7T pinion Notes-Only got a few runs in with this car in June. It usually doesn't need much tuning, but the hop seemed to be worse than normal, so I decided to work on the handling a bit. I first discovered that the motor was part of the problem (not my first guess), because it was pretty dirty and was sputtering a little, so I sprayed it out well and relubed the bushings. I then tried different t-plates and springs, and ended up going softer all around, plus added some 15k grease to kingpins to reduce hop (had previously dampened top shock for same purpose). This all helped with the hop. It also helped improve my total time by 30 seconds from my first June run, and beat my May time by almost 5 seconds. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...0010bdd54.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...e7dce0158.jpeg |
