I had the new GL 5500kv, sold it and got the Atomic. It's not the speed of the motor it won't physically fit. I'd rather have torque on this tiny track.

I ran a couple stints this evening and one of them was super clean but my fast lap was 4.42s and I could not get below 359s race time. The car feels great and I was driving well so something is up. Last time this happened it was my batteries but I thought I just got the cells I am running in October.....turns out these cells are from the beginning of July and doing some guesstimating I am saying these cells have between 200-300 cycles on them. I ordered up a couple sets of Eneloops which I am hoping will help.

Cheers,
Jim

LapTracker question

How does the LapTracker app "pick up" the laps as the car goes by? Do you need to install a transponder in the car? If so, which brands work?

200-300 cycles is a lot. Sounds like you need some new cells. I really like the Kyosho 800s!

Haven’t tried it, but guessing using camera? No transponder needed.

Timw 04-08-2020 07:24 PM

just getting into this, time for proper tires. Are most people going with slicks on the front and slightly softer radials on the rear for slick side?

it uses the camera u need to setup the motion detection for it to work almost at max also use it vertically not horizontally. It counts better that way and get a stand for it, any bump into the wall will make it count a lap with out crossing

This is my first entry into the Challenge. Please let me know if I'm missing any information. It's kinda embarrassing posting these numbers after seeing some your numbers, but it gives me a goal. Oh, I haven't seen anyone else use this app but I am using "RC Timing" on the iphone. So far it works really well, once it's dialed in it doesn't miss a beat. I have not posted enough to attach a picture to my entry. I can post it on the FB page.

try a harder rear tire like a 20 rear 20 front or a 30 front 20 rear. When i ran 10 rears the car felt floaty like it wasnt digging into the track and making grip but like the rear was hydroplanning is the best way i can explain it

You will get there really quick with more practice. I just started last month with similar times in Box Stock and I am now running a best lap of 4.75 and a race time of 440s. I am mainly trying to dial back a bit run consistent 5 sec laps for this month and working on tire selection.

Revto,
Welcome. Don't worry about your times as they will plummet as you get more practice. As Scionara said try 30s up front and 20s in the rear. Personally us PN tires and use KS Mediums up front and with the exception of my GLR have gone to Softs in the rear. Another thing, next time you are buying batteries get someting in the 800'ish Mah range, they will have noticeably more punch than the higher Mah batteries which really helps in Box Stock and Stock.

Cheers,
Jim

Friday night 'race' night. Practicing went well, the F-1 seemed more dialed than the last time I ran it. More than enough steering to make it around the corners. I think the warmer weather has helped bring up traction. Still need to work on the 102mm GLR. Not enough traction in the rear.

Nice going there Tom! I’d love to be able to video record all my runs! Watching the playback might make me a better driver.
