Well, I got board and my stock chassis wasn't handling well, so I switched it back to Box Stock. It is going to take some serious tuning to get my lap times down. It went from a fast lap of 4.7 in Stock form to 5.37 in Box Stock. It feels like I'm running on a dirt track! The A$$ end whips around super easy and the steering had to be turned way down. I'm simply amazed what a Disk Damper does for the handling!
Also am getting the track down going CCW, but my consistency is way down. I keep telling myself practice, practice practice... Take Care and Drive Fast! Drew |

Thanks for the help Traveler2! I was only able to find 1 EVO board in stock anywhere, and I scooped it up. It was at Hobby Addicts, it's the first time ordering from there, but they looked legit so I'll let yall know. I completely pulled the circuit board out of the 98mm, and really looked it over, and the only thing I can see that is bit off it the tiny capacitor doesn't look quite right. But I figured I will just use it to break in motors in since reverse works. I'm going to build the 2.5 with the EVO board that's on it's way, and I'm n the look out for a second EVO board. I already have 2 EVO receivers, and the ISC adaptor so I'm set there. I'm going to try out a brushless motor for the first time at this scale, so any recommendations would be appreciated! It is going in a PN mount and for Mini96 only, so I was figuring a 3500k.???
I REALLY LIKE the layout this month, both fast and technical. The MX-5 needs a bit more dialing in. It's turning well, but I get quite a bit of rear wheel hopping when I get into the throttle. I have a PN Dual Spring shock to add, and tires and T plates to try, and I also have some tungsten putty to add weight, as it's very light! Here's the pics of the 90mm with the Nexx 90/94mm RM Pod and Toyota GT1 PN carbon nose clip. If you look close you can see the notch I filed to get the thickness right for the MX-5. The thickness is good but it is about a half mill to narrow, so there is a bit of side to side play. I'm going to try plastic putty in the body mount hole to tighten things up. With 20mm wheels and standard height tires I have just under 1.5mm ground clearance under the PN 70T motor, and just under 3mm clearance at rear of chassis and just under 2.5 at the front. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...56b4b13cc.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...efc2a7fe1.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...479802ddc.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...736307014.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...c5a9edc2d.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...b7cb081b5.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...b2e8ddb2e.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...2c43101dd.jpeg Take Care and Hope Everyone is safe in this crazy weather! Drew P.S. Forgive the patch job on the positive motor wire, but it was 2mm short going from a MM to RM mount, But my Soldering supplies just got here, so I can now TRY to solder these tiny wires! Thanks EMU for the soldering Iron recommendation! Now to get a Magnifying visor so I can see these tiny connection with my old eyes! LOL I'll probably get on of those "Helping Hands" solder jig to help! |
That's AWESOME Traveler!!! I've got some straining screens for my airbrush paint on order, and will be painting my MX5, F1Short Tail, Skyline, Camaro, and 575 when they arrive. The Skyline is 94mm that I run Narrows all around, and it drives well, but technically can't be run in the Narrow class since it's 94mm.
It would be VERY COOL if someone with a 3d printer could print a roll cage for the MX5s to make it look like the actual MX5 race cars! Also pricing the parts I need to build an EVO with the parts I already have, and it almost comes to the same price as a complete EVO!:weird: So I am going to the local HobbyTown Saturday and check out their new indoor carpet off road track and might be coming home with a Losi MiniB, since that's what they run. The Owner is worried my Reflex will tear up the carpet being Brushless, but he wants me to try it with my factory pins that are now slicks and some Contact Foams. After watching some FaceBook videos of them running the track it looks fun, but sooo slow compared to the M96WC! Hope I can try it out, and if it's not my thing they have most of what I need to finish the EVO in stock, so I might just go that route. If I go the complete EVO route, I will eventually have to get a Kyosho alum pod as the plastic pod will break if it's built anything like the RTR plastic pods. And I already have 2 PN V3 94/98mm pods not being used. Anyway I'll be waiting to check out the new paint schemes!!! Take Care and Drive Fast! Drew |
You may be better off going with an MR-04 EVO2.
I’ve heard some good things, but will wait for a bit longer to get one myself. |
I have thought about the MR04 very hard, but there are some questions I have that I can't seem to find the answers to. If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it!
1. Kyosho says it has new ICS software, so is it just a different program than the MR03 ICS, or is it a whole different USB plug in needed? 2. I have a PN V3 94/98mm pod and DDS system, will it fit? As my luck with the plastic pods isn't the best. 3. Kyosho talks about high speed steering, etc.. but they don't have a Noble EVO2 RX. SO will I get the benefit with the standard NB4 RX, and does it have problems with the "older" RX? 4. Are the sensored board/motor of the MR04 comparable in speed and power of the MR03 EVO with the same KV Motor? Thanks for any Help! Drew |

Just a new version of the software is needed. 2. The T-Plate attachment area is the same as the MR03, so I think that'll work OK. 3. I use Futaba, so not sure on the Noble setup 4. The MR04 seems to lack a bit in the punchiness and top end as compared to the MR03 EVO, but it is smoother and I just put a bigger pinion on it to make up for it. |
THANKS HEYDAY!!! I'll put the 04 on the list!
|
Another thing I am wondering about with the MR04 is loosing the ability to add shims to the top of the knuckle. I don't fully understand the science shimming above the knuckle does, but I have used it to change the handling of the car in the corners to my liking. So has anyone missed this with the 04?
Thanks, Drew |
Well after A LOT of thinking, adding, and figuring, I decided to build a MR03 EVO with the parts I have and ordered the rest! I also ordered a 3500 and 5500kv rocket brushless motors, so I can move all my EVO's to brushless, as I seem to drive them more consistent. I'm not sure what motor pod I'm going to run. I have a PN V2/3 94/98mm pod, but I'm going to get a Nexx 90/94 pod. I just don't know if I want to go with the RM or MM pod. I really like the RM pod, but have never run the 90MM.
For those who have ran them both which do you prefer? THANKS for all who have helped!!! Drew update: After rereading the Mini-Z and Mini96WC threads for info on the Nexx MM 90/94mm pod, it seems that the MM is limited in the gearing so I went with what I know, the 90/94mmRM. So I will now be able to setup this new chassis from 90mm Narrow to 98mmm. It will have PN Low Down Knuckles, Inner Tube Friction Shock set front end/ or normal, delrin servo gears /w brass 4th, PN king pins w/Kyo floro balls, PN V2/3 94/98mm or Nexx 90/94mmRM motor pod, Rocket 3500Kv, and a PN Gear Diff. Now the dreaded wait for shipping!!! I have 2 orders coming from Japan, so knock on wood everything goes through customs easily! One pkg has some 750hv AAA's, so we'll see! |
