Whether religion was chosen for them or not is irrelevant to the topic, the original statement was that religion has hindered scientific advancement and clearly it hasn't in my opinion when people who were religious created the foundation for modern-day science. Also, most of these people didn't have much to their name some even died poor like Johannes Gutenberg. In Gregor Mendel's case, he had to tutor to pay for his education.

I believe that humanity has become too selfish. It seems like are main goal is to become highly recognized as being a person to idolize. Having this mindset will cause a person to seek more power. Money brings power. Having a fear in God rath will cause someone to be more mindful and caring, for others, in the decisions they must make.

When I say religion, I'm not talking about someone who claims to be a part of a church, but rarely ever goes. I'm talking about someone who has a great respect for God and what he stands for. Just about every politician claims to be extremely religious. Clinton is Baptist, Bush is Methodist, Obama is Muslim, Trump is Christian but nondenominational, and Biden is Catholic. There is actually a "prayer room" in the Capital building. Imagine how much more honest they would be if they actually feared God. Obviously, they don't fear the laws of "man."

If they don't fear God and they don't fear the laws of man, then what is going to keep them from going off the end?

You're not wrong, but its a two way street. You are ignoring all the crooked people that are religious and have used religion for their personal gains. Whether someone is god fearing or not is irrelevant. If they are selfish, corrupt, and self serving, they will be so whether or not they are religious.

Offroadjunkie and speedchaser, if you guys are religious I don't mean to offend you guys. Everyone is free to believe what they believe. I'm not religious anymore, I see through their bullshit, all they want is your money. Modern religion today is just a business for some. If there is a god and I owe him money, Ill give it to him when I die. Ill hand it to him at the gates of heaven, that's assuming I'm not going to hell.

There have been lots of quacks out there that put religion over science and medicine. They nearly die or cause others to die because they believe their god and prayers will heal them of their sickness.

Different note: The middle east is an extreme example of what can happen when god fearing people and government runs a country, and oppresses its people in strict adherence of a faith, and also use it to justify violence. Don't forget manifest destiny. Those people that fought and killed the indians for their land were god fearing, and they thought westward expansion was their god given right. The world was not better 20 years ago. A couple of god fearing guys flew planes into the twin towers. Crime was also higher 20 years ago. The media just reports more of it now. Statistics show that the 80s to early 90s were the height of crime. People were also more religious back then too. Anyway Id chance walking around New York, Miami, or LA today before I would in the 80s/90s.

I agree with you. But the bit about the natives selling land, some details get fudged around that in the history books. They didnt agree to sell all of it, that was only in certain instances. A lot of the times where an agreement was drawn up, the "contract" wasn't always honored. A lot of times tribes were engaged in battle and killed for their land. They didn't completely and willingly give it up. Again, even in the instances where they agreed to sell or share the land, they were eventually taken advantage of and pushed off anyway. They weren't just treated unfairly by todays standards, they were knowingly done so by standards of the time. The buffalo soldiers were also used to fight them. Also look up the Indian Removal Act.

Does anyone else get a warning from Google when they look up memes saying "Memes about groups of people might be disturbing or hurtful " like geez talking about the state of current society that they need to be given a trigger warning about a meme they search up themselves.
